• At this point the flowers and stalls look pretty far gone. If it's in bark, which is what it looks like, that generally dries our fairly fast. I'm fairly confident the worst mistake I made for orchids was watering on schedule and not when they actually needed water. Orchids don't live in soil (well, most. Phals don't.) and have bark/moss/etc to retain humidity, since they tend to naturally hang onto other things. Watering it more is all but guaranteed to kill it. (I'm assured this is the main cause of death, but mine is usually the opposite or the dog.) Make sure the water drains out before putting it back in the cup. Since it doesn't have flowers, it's probably a good idea to start fertilizing now. Which normally is recommended with very weak amounts upon watering. If the container is too large however, the substrate can rot and it won't be able to drink enough water. Anyway orchids are poopiefaces. I'm secretly convinced I'm an orchid murderer but no-one else seems to think so. I grow mine in moss, bark, perlite and charcoal personally, but I also grow them outside. I can't do them in the house. I generally buy mine with the whole eh these shall be flowers, so used won't be sad in the event of random orchid death.

  • I have never successfully grown a sempervivum, I think we've been lied to. I honestly can't grow any cactus or succulents inside, they become so etiolated, even in my disturbingly bright house.

  • Mobile doesn't seem to be able to. :/ How awful. I love the penis cactus, I finally found once over the winter. It's a little, uh, flaccid, but will hopefully perk up. (Wow.) It was like, in an inch of dirt and grew aerial roots but it's still existing. I didn't really want to mess with it in case it decided to sleep.

I collect a lot more of the cute spherical ones. So adorables.

  • I am growinggggg... grapes, chilis which include ghosty type and several pequin varieties, melons if my dog STOPS PEEING ON THEM (He loves peeing on the melon plants I don't understand.) and peanuts if the other dog and rest of the planet don't eat them. My grapes and chilis are more permanent plants really though. I have a terrible squirrel problem that is attempting to stop my everything but ESPECIALLY all edible things. I mostly do ornamental and I will buy every single cactus and succulent I see and want. :c Most my plant purchases are impulsive. Today I bought a couple of sundews. and my kiwi seeds sprouted so hopefully those will do well. I'm that person that goes shopping about once a week to see what's weird.

  • It's going outside when it finishes blooming. My orchids get evicted once they're not being cute. ...Unless they're cooler climate ones. Supposedly Vandas love heat and light and... daily misting. Yay.

  • For SOME things the summer is fine. For a lot it's DEATH IS UPON ME THE SUN HAS FORSAKEN ME END IS NIGH. Everything wants to be watered constantly and, well, it's not very possible. (We're almost always in drought so water is limited.) I... do a lot of cactus. I'm very into my cactus/succulent collection. But a lot of things die horrifically in the summer. Mostly my grapes and a few peppers feel like living more than a year.

  • ...I never had winter, so I technically never stopped. I planted seeds which I'm awful at, my grapes are popping back up, my dog is digging up everything sprouting and squirrels are stealing everything they can. But I've been building stone walkways and... shopping. So much shopping.

  • I live in south central Texas and spend way too much money on plants. Especially cactus, succulents and orchids. (But I'm awful at orchids probably.) I unfortunately also sell house plants and flowers for money and its a horrible cycle of no money. :c I have a plant addiction problem man. I'm... I'm watering while I type this. I mostly like really weird things.
