oo I did not know that about red bats, that's really interesting! Especially as people tend to view bats as scary in western culture due to association with vampires and horror.
The fact that they introduced a bat emoji is excellent :D
Hey there! \o bats are awesome :D
Yeah, imagine seeing these flying about!
omg yes they do XD
Hey!
Yeah I got the picture from the UK Bat Conservation Trust, they always have wonderful stuff! The bats in the photo are Lesser Horseshoe Bats.
I know right!! XD XD
Yeah, in a lot of places bats are a protected species but it's great to see this sort of rescue even when they aren't!
Indeed!
oh gosh they are so delicate, a lot of the bats my mum had to rescue had been caught by cats, and often they'd have broken wings and damaged wing membranes. Some could be rehabilitated, but if they'd got any cat saliva in a wound they often died due to cat saliva being toxic to them. When my mum had to stop bat rescuing the few she still had that couldn't be returned to the wild were rehomed with another local bat worker, who already had several permanent residents of their own.
Hah, yeah that'd make me jump too XD
Ah yeah bats do tend to fly from their hanging upside down perch so it makes sense they'd have issues lifting from the ground!
My mum looked after injured and orphaned bats when I was young, so that's where I've learnt most of my bat know how from, she'd let them fly around the lounge when they were recovering ready to be released and occasionally she thought she'd lost one behind the book cases!
Yeah I can imagine if you come across one unexpectedly I guess it would be a bit of a shock, I've never experienced it myself though!
Oh wow, that sounds like quite an interesting place to live - so many bats!
Ah brilliant, I recently learnt about hoary bats, they are particularly angry when they get caught! The workshop sounds really cool!
That's a pretty large bat, the gloves are essential! Where abouts was this, and what happened to the bat afterwards?
haha, thanks for being here :)
That was brilliant and so funny about the bat that crashed into him XD
lol, I did grow up with bats due to my mum's volunteer work so I may be odd for having heard stuff like that XD
yeah, that's one of the things that people are supposedly scared of bats doing, but I've literally only heard it as part of a "this is something that won't happen" list.
