• That was the main concern, unfortunately. Some of the anti-types in this wave of fandom children pretty much stalk people, if they think there's something there to "find" and then spread around (up to and including digging through peoples' archives on tumblr--I'm assuming to look for details that could be used to doxx).

I know peoples' mileage may vary on privacy settings, and it sounds like the comm is actually just moderated and people can request to join--after that, they can see the posts. I'm okay with that setting, honestly, but if people have strong feelings one way or the other, I'm good with what most people are comfortable with.

  • Lol! That works too! Thanks for letting me know. :P

  • That feel. :P Well, let me know if there's anything I can do?

  • But, I'm making progress on getting Discord unblocked from Dreamwidth (for another community). So there's the possibility I could/anyone else could set up something on there with a chat feature?

  • So, I looked at the forums, and for at least one of them, I noticed that the privacy options weren't that great?

  • Lol, totally understandable. And tbh, I like the idea of a forum or community (like Dreamwidth) where there can be separate threads and it's easier to find stuff you wrote months ago 'cause you need it for a fic. :P

  • That's a good point--I've mostly either gifwatched the show or (ever since the last Flash crossover) literally not even gone on tumblr to see peoples' reactions and find out what happened. It just got too painful to let myself get into it.

Since I probably shouldn't talk too much about something I haven't seen with my own two eyes (lol)--I think, in my head, I'm contrasting quite a bit with how the jealousy storylines between women were resolved last season? Particularly between Lucy and Kara--confronting and moving through that jealousy was actually key to the Cadmus plot later in the season, and then they went on to have this professional relationship that had nothing to do with the guy they were "fighting" over. It was pretty remarkable, given how two women being jealous over a man are usually written.

I don't mean to imply that that jealousy/hurt is unrealistic--not at all. Just that in this case, it feels a little bit artificially extended, given how the show has dealt with similar situations in the past. There was (what seems intentional) weight given to those relationships becoming affirmative and supportive, and an explicit (if a little cheesy) confrontation of the subject.

(Also to do with the fact that it sounds like the five-minute Sanvers subplot in each ep is the only reason most later episodes have passed the Bechdel test this season, lol.)

  • No worries! Honestly, whatever people decide is fine with me. I just wanted to bring it up sooner rather than later. :P

I'm not sure if reddit can be made private? I've never used it for anything other than googling stuff at work. (after googling: It looks like it can be, so that might be an option, unless there's some significant drawback to that?) I know Dreamwidth can also be made private.

Okay, I had no idea that forumotion was even a thing, that looks really cool. I'd been fiddling with a Dreamwidth/Discord combination, but I couldn't get the darn Discord widget (or iframe) to work. Something with a built-in integration could be really handy, if people wanted to go that route.

  • I love this headcanon and it's kind of the only way I've been able to make character sense of this season--the idea that Alex had all of these repressed memories and feelings come back, so every memory or "I love you" or hug (even if it wasn't intended that way) becomes "suspect"? But she misses Kara and doesn't know how fix this situation.

re: the completely unnecessary "Kara vs. Maggie" stories--it's very similar to how straight women are written, no? They're always in competition for the affection of a third party, even if that's not logical that that tension would play out that way.

It's one of those very telling departures from S1, where women had relationships with each other that weren't simply either catty/competitive or romantic. I know I personally started watching SG for that exact reason, and it's one of the main reasons why this season has been such a turn-off--it's hilariously, ironically, sexist. This creative/production team either doesn't care about those relationships, and/or has no idea how to write them, and/or simply doesn't think that they'll sell. Either way, it's really heartbreaking. And doesn't bode well for snvrs, either, or the relationship between Kara & Lena.

  • That's... I had no idea that snvrs proposed, and that is super rushed. The entire relationship this season has been one long, "I wish I could enjoy this, but..." and that's just one more thing.

It's like--it's like Alex's entire character has been reduced to her sexuality this season, which considering the demographic that the CW lost with the 1oo, is concerning--it reads like she's been reduced to a means to get back the audience that they alienated. On top of that, her only arc has been Maggie this season? And they went straight for a proposal? Which suggests that they either didn't care enough to explore the relationship and the characters (TV doesn't really understand how to make relationships interesting without breakups and cheating), and now that relationship has been "resolved".

I love the nuances Chyler and Floriana and Melissa have managed to bring to it (I'm living through the meta/subtext in there tbh), but the text has had some troubling implications re: the production team and how they view the queer relationships and characters on this show. And how well they understand how to write them--and how far they're willing to go to make it "realistic".

  • I feel like this photo agrees. :P

  • image

  • That brings up a very good question, tho: Who gives the best backrubs? Of the two of them. Is it a thing where Kara consciously tries to help Alex relax and know she's appreciated?

I feel like Alex is kinda absent-minded about touch with Kara? Like, Kara is her touchstone, and given the sensory differences, maybe Alex just always has a hand on her leg or something, and it keeps them both grounded?

  • In my head, they're still cuddling. Just, y'know, someplace the producers and execs can't see them. :P

Mon-El has agreed to be Kara's beard and is in a relationship with Winn. It's stressful, and like, they're very incompatible. But they have to please the Powers That Be.

  • saaame.

screencapped.net has a lot of, well, screencaps. Of their hugs. It was a nice reminder of how lovely they are.

  • Didn't manage to watch tonight, but will take a look!
