cute!!
Adorable! Love your fabric choices as well :D
So cute!!! I love the way you painted them, so delicate and festive!
Yes for sure !
Ugh so obnoxious! :( I'm sorry!
Sure! :D
'Girl's Own'-ish
Thanks so much for the tips! I will def post pics if I make them! I'm trying to get back into sewing. I used to do it a lot and really enjoyed it but have just been so busy lately ><
Awesome!
Oh my gosh so adorable! Add a brown newsboy cap for Max Cuteness. Dang. If I hadn't already gotten my witch!Montparnasse costume together I would do this.
Saving this to try the frame idea!
So cool!! I LOVE the fabrics you picked they're all gorgeous!! Did you hand stitch or machine stitch them? I want to try this now!
Very cool!! Where do you get pictures from, out of curiosity? Love the vintage illustrations!
What a fab cover!
So cute!!! I really want to learn to crochet so I can make amigurumi, so many super awesome patterns!
That sounds awesome! I should def look into those.
ooo so it's actually a saying! that makes more sense. it seemed like a pretty random phrase to insert in a book about non-lute-playing schoolgirls.
I'm currently considering going back to grad school (in a different field...tried to force myself into something that really didn't fit the first time) and it's a big scary decision but also kind of cool to think about! I love the learning and reading bits of school, if only there weren't all the pressure!
I'm curious about the phrase 'rift within the lute'. Is it just like it sounds (a split in a lute would cause the sound to warp) or am I missing an implication?
GOSH that second pullout quote. Tbh I would probably have done the same thing as a kid! She goes from having no friends to having the girl she's half in love with, like, ask her to move in and hang out all the time. It would definitely be difficult to come back from that. I would HOPE that if Aldred had just told the truth up front and admitted to eavesdropping, Mabel wouldn't have just completely dropped her as a friend, but I can def see being a young girl and not wanting to risk it!
SAME...my usual reaction to lesbophobia, tbh. The parts about slang are def interesting, in spite of the rather high-handed tone the author takes in this and other entries. Thanks for posting! I'm always slightly baffled by what was considered 'slang' at different times, because while sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it's stuff that is formal/widely accepted now.
As a side-note, the frog wearing a suit and what appears to be a hair-piece on the cover is extremely endearing!
XD I am growing quite fond of her as the narrative progresses.
That sounds like a super cool PhD ! (But also, grad school is like an enormous stress monster etc etc). Are you in the cranky old fangirls group?
I thought the woodworking thing was cool as well! And, fairly complex woodworking apparently since they manage to make bookshelves and chairs and outfit an entire cottage! I'm at the part where Aldred is really ambitiously planning out what to serve for tea and dinner and I just know something is going to go horribly wrong. ><. I'm rooting for Aldred, but telling a teacher you don't need a recipe for jam, thanks, is just too foreshadow-y for everything to possibly go according to plan.
I'd really like to read more about the use of slang, if you happen to have any articles handy!
I guess it was nice that he went with her to work on her painting!
Just to update, I've started reading! Poor Aldred, she just wants people to like her so badly. (Also, her brother was a bit of a pill, I wasn't too sad to see him go and the school part actually start).
I'm a bit late but downloading it to my kindle today! (Also I love both of your usernames!)
