I've done three seasons of ecological research in Antarctica, trips to the UK and New Zealand for fun and France twice for work. Studied/worked in Canada as well.
I'm mildly disappointed I've never gone to get a picture of the one signpost with distances to all of them when I'm back visiting my parents.
For scotch, I'd recommend Balvenie 12 double wood. Very smooth, with a nice set of flavors. Not very smoky nor peaty, so it's a good introduction to tasting some of the softer flavors in scotch.
Lloyd Alexander, CS Lewis, Jane Yolen, Earthsea and The Hobbit. Of them I don't think Alexander or Yolen gets enough recognition for their stories.
Oh God, this is so true. It sounds so much less awful when you aren't super isolated from everything.
I'm on the market (again) this year, although I'm only 6 months into a 2-year postdoc so it's not as dire as it was last year when I was looking at my then-current postdoc position ending in 6 months. 3 applications in so far, with another dozen or so to go (also so far), although I'm also looking at government jobs this time around, as well.
Market sucks, but hopefully it'll work out! We're also doing the 2-body thing, so it's fun all around.
Oh, neat! I've got a bunch of credit from apple over their court settlement from iBooks, so maybe I'll look into these. If only they'd do something similar for The Wheel of Time--now that's a series that could also benefit from something like this!
What makes them "enhanced"? Do they have illustrations or links to encyclopedic-type information?
