they're gonna send us to prison for jerks
Steve/Bucky, teen+
“Hey Steve, this is Jack Murphy, our other neighbor. Jack, this is Steve.” Steve looked at Sam a little wildly, expecting to see—he didn’t even know, but some reaction other than Sam’s usual easy friendliness. And there was something there, but it was just the twitch of Sam’s mouth that said he found something hilarious and he was trying not to show it. Was this Sam’s idea of a joke, or a prank? Because this guy—behind the glasses and mustache, Steve could have sworn—well, he looked like Bucky.
This was a delight! Canon divergent after TWS, it's got an identity pornish reunion plot, some nice action scenes, and a great dynamic between Steve, Bucky, and Sam.
The only Marvel fic I read this week was hearts will be glowing, a G-rated Steve/Bucky/Sam mundane AU fic. The characterization was a little bit more generic than this author usually writes in her mundane AUs, but it was still a pretty cute read and a nice bit of holiday fluff for those of us still in the mood for that. I am not personally a coffee drinker, but I especially enjoyed Bucky's commitment to really bizarre flavor combinations.
Steve/Bucky, mature
Summary: “This was the last place where I knew who Bucky Barnes was. No matter how many times they stuffed the Soldier inside me, or tried to rip the old Bucky out, a little bit of him still hung on inside, you know? I just need to see that place where it all changed.”
Comments: A nice action-adventure in which Bucky and Sam visit the spot where he fell in the Alps to try and get some closure for Bucky, but end up running afoul of some HYDRA remnants in the area.
Scenes From a Marriage: the Long Road Home

Speranza's annual 4 Minute Window advent calendar
Steve/Bucky, explicit
Steve volunteers for a support group for at-risk teens with PTSD after the Battle of New York and slowly rebuilds his relationship with Bucky. Nice, satisfying read.

I don't believe in soulmates in the traditional sense that there are people who are "fated" to be together, or that there's only one (or two, or however many) people that's "right" for you. I do believe that there are some people who just "click" together and that Steve and Bucky were probably two people like that.
I think I've read more A/B/O fics that incorporated bonding elements than pure soulmate or soulbond fics, i.e. The Ties That Bind. I do like the worldbuilding in some soulmate fics, though. It's interesting to think how dating and marriage traditions might change if people had predestined partners.
Side bitch out of your league (teen+)
Totally ridiculous but cute Shrunkyclunks. I'm a sucker for snark.
tagged gen, but there are references to various canon relationships and proto-relationships, including Steve/Sharon
unrated
This is a canon divergence AU that takes a look at Civil War, goes "Pass", and runs with Up All Night To Get Bucky instead. I enjoyed the team dynamics and banter.
On an unrelated note, I'm back from vacation, so Fic Rec Friday will resume this week and you can expect more regular posts again.
Glad to hear this. The poor comment threading is still my biggest issue with the site.
I love that fic, too. It definitely deserves its place as a Stucky fandom classic.
I hope everyone who celebrated it had a great Thanksgiving!
I am out of town for the holiday and haven't had time to read anything new, but Speranza updated the 4 Minute Window series with a new ficlet today. Although the original story in the series is a little hit or miss for me with the characterization, I like The Kandinsky a lot, and some of the other stories are also nice comfort reads, although the latest was a bit angstier than some.
I'm reading a Winter Soldier!Steve fic right now after seeing a rec for it on FFA, but it's het rather than Steve/Bucky. (Steve/Peggy and Bucky/OFC)
I love a lot of the art for this trope, though. Here's one of my favorites.
Thanks!
Yeah, it was really cute and Steve was just the right amount of oblivious.
I like that fic by kototyph! Do you have any particular favorites from the ficlets by mwestbelle?
you'll remember mercury, by dirtybinary (teen+)
This seemed a little too short to me, so I'd love to read more of Bucky Bear, shark emoji: Texting Addict, but it was a cute and amusing read.

A couple modly notes:
- There will be no Fanfiction Thursday next week (Nov 24) due to Thanksgiving.
- Our Fanfiction Thursday collection is currently at 244 fics recced here and on reddit. Let's see if we can hit 250 fics this week!
Edit: 254! Yay! Keep 'em coming. :)
I tend to prefer fics on the happier end of the spectrum, so I read a fair bit of fluff and lots of fics tagged things like "fluff and angst" or "fluff and smut".
biblionerd07 is a great stucky author for both pure fluff and fluff and angst. A few of my favorites are just say you do and its extras, whose arms will hold you, the food of love, and you're gonna have your way or none at all.
I consider most of owlet's Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail series to be in the fluff and angst category. They definitely cheer me up!
kototyph has also written some I've really enjoyed, especially Too Long Have We Tarried and (I Can't Let This Go) I'm On My Way.
On the poly front, there's a couple cute Steve/Bucky/Natasha fics that I consider pretty cute and fluffy: The Deep End and you're gonna give your love to me.
Oh my god, bless you both, you wonderful people. I did need that, apparently.
Hi folks, to be honest, I am almost too depressed about the election results right now to even think about reading fanfiction, but if anybody would like to share some happy, fluffy, escapist fic right now to help cheer us all up, I'm sure it would be appreciated!
To be honest, I've been way too preoccupied with the election to read any fanfiction this week, and way too depressed in the aftermath to even consider it so far, but in light of how difficult the last couple days have been for many of us, maybe we can share some fluffy, escapist stories and other comfort reads for people who need something to cheer them up?
I've recced this before, but here's one of my favorite Marvel comfort reads:
Too Long Have We Tarried (Steve/Bucky, explicit)
the 'remember when we were 20 and you had just broken up with your girlfriend and you drunkenly made me promise to marry you if you were single at 30? well happy birthday, jackass, here's a decoder ring I just pulled out of a cereal box. Marry me.' trope.
I think we all needed that.
