Probably not, I'm a real Les Mis fandom lurker. I've loved it for a long time, read the brick and everything, but never saw the musical staged until two years ago so I felt out of it with a lot of musical discussion. Then someone put it on in my town for the first time since I was 2 years old and I went five times :D
As far as style goes, my favourite zine artist is Crapandemic/Julia Eff. Especially their gender zines and "I Was A Teenage Satanist". THey're handwritten and use collages really well. http://crapandemic.storenvy.com/
When I was at uni people talked about the 86 tram like it was some important cultural experience where you got to see the Real Melbourne. Now that I live in Preston and take it into work every day I'm having trouble seeing the mystique.
It takes me to Psarakos Market, I guess. THat part's good.
Hi!
I picked 'I just read it' because I can read music, but to be honest I learn a lot by ear, and probably learn faster that way. I just joined a new choir and for the songs they all know from memory, I've been learning just by sitting in my section and listening at rehearsals and joining in when I start getting the hang of it.
well done!
Absolutely!
Hi! I didn't make a personal blog yet though.
My only fanon is that they build a library for Patty in the firehouse once they get it. Oh, and that Patty and Holtzmann go to old bookshops together and Patty settles into the history section to browse while Holtzmann interrogates the bookseller about his occult collection.
Yeah, I get scared of finishing sometimes too. For me it's not editing that scares me so much as letting other people see it, whether it's posting fanfic or submitting original stories somewhere.
I didn't do much prose, but I got a lot of background planning done for a story I've been thinking about for months. It sure feels like getting something done! The trick will be to know when to start planning and start writing, since I have a habit of writing great outlines and then abandoning them during the first draft. :/
This is lovely!
ahhh, fantastic! I'm always up for talking about sports stories if you ever want to chat. :)
I'm reading The Coyote Road at the moment; it's a collection of fantasy short stories based on trickster myths and folktales, and it's making me think a lot about trickster stories and the role of folklore generally. Trickster figures are transgressive and cross boundaries, but it seems like trickster stories also tend to reinforce that the boundaries are THERE. They represent chaos, but in the course of the story they often seem to show you why you should stick to the rules.
Really recommend the book though, it's got some really great stories.
Thanks! There are lots of things that attract me to sports narratives, other than that I enjoy sports myself. You get all kinds of interesting relationships that form around competitions. I looooove reading and writing rivalries, and sports rivalries are fun because they can be so intense but they're not over anything that will usually hurt anyone. And because rivalries can spur people to become better, too.
Both of these are aspects of worldbuilding I find really interesting! I love reading about different magic systems that people come up with.
hello I am also here. I didn't make myself a personal blog yet or anything. I like that this place kinda makes you lurk by default.
I'm working on a kind of medieval sports fantasy around jousting and swordfighting tournaments. I haven't done a whole lot of wordlbuilding before and I feel like I'm just doing it at random when bits of the story seem to need background. What are gender roles? What's the class system? Is there religion here? and then I get to a feast scene and realise they need to eat something.
My favourite part was the look on Mary's face when Paul dunked his jaffa cake.
I've always loved the Ghostbusters music and shouting "WHO YA GONNA CALL?", but until the 2016 movie that was about as involved as I got. It's like I liked the idea of Ghostbusters, but this was the first thing in the franchise that was REALLy the Ghostbusters that I wanted.
