Hello! I haven't seen any activity in this group since I joined a few months ago. You're not going to believe this, but when I saw your post, I was just about to create the group I had been dreaming of before Imzy turned off group creation. I'll let you know when it's up.
You would be surprised by how much research and thought great authors put into tiny details. Also, they may spend quite a long time researching in order to decide things like where their characters once stayed on a trip, which is expressed in a few words, but enriches the story. (This is especially important when fictional characters are living in a non-fictional world.)
I think you are absolutely doing the right thing by creating the backstory in order to keep your new plot points and lore consistent. In the future, this information might become very useful. In fact, knowing how often authors decide to totally shake up their works in progress, it might become useful sooner than you think!
What an inspiring group! Just reading the comments on this post is inspiring me to put down more of my thoughts. I have three worlds I'm building in my mind (one sci-fi, one sci-fi/fantasy and one a world-let for an established fiction universe.) It's nice to meet all of you!
BTW, please excuse the generic avatar. I haven't made one yet.
Obviously that's not all I believe; that's the super-short form! :)
I don't follow a specific famous tradition, although I've been developing and sharing my beliefs for so long that they have become their own tradition.
I believe that there are an infinite number of Deities. We don't know how many, and for all we know, the number changes. I believe that there are a wide variety of personalities amongst the Gods, and great variation in Their interest in us.
Speaking of Hellenic Deities, Hestia is very important to me :)
