• The 2000's are so underated

General Culture: The 2000's saw the meteoric rise of music festivals, before there grew to be so many that they saturated the market. In addition, while the effects of music piracy have caused problems, its hard to argue that the rise of music sharing on streaming allowed people to access more music than any time in history. Electronic Music also became wildly more accessible to poorer artists, and production methods were streamlined.

In indie: Fleet Foxes, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear, St. Vincent, Modest Mouse, Sufjan Stevens, Interpol, and LCD Soundsystem, put out great albums. We also saw these types of artists find success in congruence with a growing social appreciation of the indie's aesthetic

In hip-hop: while people often cite the 2000's as a slump period, there were so many great artists making revelutionary albums; Madvillainy, The Carter III, Kanye's first 3, Since I Left You, J Dilla's work. Adult Swim showcased a bunch of TV incorporating hip-hop: The Boondocks, artist bumps, Samurai Champloo. I'd also argue that this was the best era for hip hop producers. All of this laid the foundation for the 2nd golden age we are in now.

Pop: I'm not going to defend this. The 2000's saw the rise of iHeart Media's airwave domination. That sucked. Toxic's a great song though.
