Only possible solution: eat out a lot.
I've got upper division college students and I'm like, guys, I learned how to write better than this in like, I dunno, middle school...? I despair.
Oh lordy. That's just...physically painful. I prefer my plagiarism to be out of sheer incompetence, I suppose. It makes me feel a little better. Marginally.
I actually can believe it, because honestly, that software is nonsense! It tags your reference list, your title, absurdly common phrases, stuff like that. Just. Useless. (At least that's my experience with turnitin.com) But also, students are lazy and totally think they're smarter than they are when it comes to this. And think they're the first to think of it. I despair!
I love that there's someone who feels my pain. You're like my favorite right now. <3
That hurts deep in my soul. In one of the classes, I ran across 5 students (out of 35) who failed to cite any of their sources within their paper (but had a reference list...who taught you how to cite things, students!?) and I wrote each of them a lengthy paragraph of how it was impossible to tell where their information was from and what was other info and what was theirs.....and then passed it to the professor I TA for to let her decide what to do. (University policy considers that plagiarism, but leaves the professor room to decide how to handle it)
I'm also running across a fair number of students who write like they talk and I'm just like...guys, c'mon, this is an upper division course, like, haven't you passed a sufficient number of writing courses to have that trained out of you yet?

That is awesome. :D

Around here, people have a tendency to put HAMMERTIME on stop signs.

Hey, if posting on Imzy counted toward my thesis, I'd be here all the time!
I did that on purpose, Eli! NOT THAT I KNOW WHAT PURPOSE IS, CATHIE!
Not that we know anyone that careless with Tupperware, Cathie....
[/giphy back away slowly]

[/giphy the end is nigh]

[/giphy joker why so serious]

I'm sorry @stranger! It was a terrible terrible mistake! Clowns are evil and scary.
[/giphy my bad]

I was afraid of that.
[/giphy run away]

Are you secretly a clown...?

The West Wing is beautiful and perfect and amazing and perfect. I highly recommend picking it back up. And if you've seen the original BSG, I think you'll really enjoy the new one; it takes the best concepts of the original and makes it intense and gives it a thick, rich plot and has amazing actors with perfect, smoldering chemistry.
Rookie Blue! It's a Canadian cop show that follows rookie cops in Toronto. It lasted for 6 season, each about 13-15 episodes a piece. Not sure where/if you can find it online, but it's great.
There's always older shows that are fun to watch. The West Wing, especially considering we're in the middle of a political cycle right now, I consider it a necessity to watch during presidential elections. Stargate SG-1, followed by Stargate Atlantis (don't watch Universe, it was awful). Lost. OMG IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN LOST WATCH LOST. Battlestar Galactica (not the original, the remake, but you can watch the original after you've seen the remake for its nostalgic charm). Psych is fun, so is Burn Notice, and Royal Pains.
...I'll stop now.
It was a blast! Absolutely worth getting up St 8am for. (Even the sunburn was worth it.)
[/giphy but I'm doing much better now]

Valid. That one's terrifying.
[/giphy oops]

I'm sorrrrrrryyyyyy!
[/giphy crying]

I'll do better next time! I promise to come stalk you next time I'm there! :D
[/giphy creepy stalker]

I had to think long and hard to remember how to do them. I'm just happy I remembered! Where would we be without those wonderful giphys? It just adds that certain je ne sais quoi to all our posts and comments!
