    taking a closer look at would-be immigrants is not what those battling immigration policies are proposing. the only solution I see is an end to a world culture that uses war as the bottom line instrument of foreign (or domestic) policy (I don't need to point out that these wars are never fought for the reasons people are rallied to support them.) how's that going to take shape? maybe after the globes first nuclear war (and if you don't think it's coming you haven't been paying attention.)

    I don't want to simplify the issues here, but to imply that Muslims have a collective responsibility for acts of terrorism is simply wrong. I don't accept respons ability for the murder of abortion doctors by Christian fanatics even though those killers are produced by American culture. I think that all people who want to create a sane, safe world have a duty to do whatever can be done to build that. But that's way different than the way Requad formulates the issue(s)

    I'm old as dirt, and I've been reading all my life. These days I'm teaching junior college English in Los Angeles, which means I commute all over town. As a result, I've consumed more than a hundred audiobooks, most recently Tania French's "Faithful Place" (I love her books a lot), and Philip Roth's "American Pastoral."
