All in, can't wait, totally hyped. Felt great about the teaser image a few weeks back. Feel better after this.

Your post and especially the last line sums up everything for me, Ray. I just came back to comics a couple of years ago (through this podcast, really) and got caught up on the late 90s through the 2000s through Marvel Unlimited while simultaneously really enjoying Bendis' X-run. I also loved Hickman's FF/Avengers/Secret Wars epic, but really felt the fatigue after so many delays in that series and with UXM 600. I really tried to stick out another relaunch but gave up in May, hopeful that DoX might pull me back in. Alas. Glad I've got a big ol' stack of real and digital TPBs to go back and enjoy again.

That's a pretty great image, too!

My eyes just about rolled out of my head at Ra's A-Pocalypse. Then I remembered how much I loved 1996.

Perhaps she is in the same town as the Madrox-Miller Farm, producing great milk- and goat-cheeses. Her power keeps the smelly by-products from sticking to her at the end of a long day.

    Legion and Quire. Absolutely.

I would buy every issue of that and the Trade. Forge is one of my favorite characters ever, and I've really come to like Dani a lot since listening to the podcast. I love this idea.

Agreed. That's why I picture it in that era. Nightcrawler as his high point as a swashbuckler, and Pietro being a complete butt...but maybe not yet a war criminal.

It'd be something if when Scott comes back from wherever he is, he showed up powerless and afraid on the Madrox farm. I'm thinking art by Chris Bachalo, because all I can think of is that shot of Scott with the shard of ruby quartz tied in a headband from "X-Men Unlimited" #1.

What was Jamie and Scott's last interaction? During Messiah Complex? Just the two of them working on something not related to THE FUTURE OF MUTANTKIND HANGING IN THE BALANCE would be welcome.

I would love to see just about ANY pairing with Kitty when she comes back from space.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenI have so many feelings about Havok, y'all.Jun 11, 2016 at 7:35 PM

I, for one, have very rarely liked the way Alex and Scott are written as brothers, but I've never disliked it quite so much as in Factor-X. It's understandably a different world than the 616, but I truly despised the way Alex was portrayed in that world.

But even in regular continuity...I don't know. I don't know the issue, but there's that handball game scene from early in the gov't X-Factor days, and I didn't like that. I didn't like the way they were handled after AvX, going into Uncanny Avengers. It always feels like writers are playing up a one-note angle where Scott is always the over-achiever and Alex is always playing catch-up, and I kind of hate it.

And yet, I remain intrigued about what happened after Bendis brought Havok to the Weapon X facility. I'm way more curious about where Alex is than Scott since Secret Wars, but I also really want to know what they got up to before Uncanny 600.

Anyway, I hope the rant makes it into the final cut of the episode!

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenX-Men: Apocalypse Open Thread (SPOILERS, AHOY!)May 31, 2016 at 2:57 PM

I really like Quicksilver, and the mansion explosion scene made me wish I hadn't had to go see the movie at 11 on a Sunday morning. The theater was totally dead during that scene. It made me sad.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenX-Men: Apocalypse Open Thread (SPOILERS, AHOY!)May 31, 2016 at 2:54 PM

I actually did not pick up on the Jean/X thing, really. But Charles and Moira did not click for me at all. Her appearance in the movie felt forced. Like it was an attempted call back to a (frankly) better movie that just sort of fell on its face.

YES. Thank you, HesDeadJim. You totally put into words what I was thinking. Also, now that I think about it, haven't we already been down the "everyone is scared of her power set" road, too? With Rogue? I am retroactively having a flashback to Rogue and Wolvie in the first movie while thinking about the Jean and Charles scene in "Apocalypse".

Can you comment on whether CU works any better than MU on tablets? I was an MU subscriber for a while, then dropped it due to real frustration with the app (and the gaps in offerings, especially in the X-Line outside of Uncanny and X-Men '91). I signed up again this month when a free month offer came through email and I'm really disappointed that loading times and errors are still pretty prevalent on iPad.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenInteresting tidbit: Excalibur #55 was so full they had to put the first story page on the cover!May 29, 2016 at 2:50 PM

This was the first issue of Excalibur I ever picked up, specifically because of the cover. Love it. Not sure it needs to be a trend, but it does fit with the various amazing covers for the series.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenX-Men: Apocalypse Open Thread (SPOILERS, AHOY!)May 29, 2016 at 2:38 PM

As an X-Men Fan: I loved Nightcrawler, I loved Caliban, I really liked Scott and Alex and Hank. The stinger was very cool, but it was the only moment to make me go 'whoa'. The kids and the uniforms and Essex and, yes, Bald Chuck make me excited for the next movie.

As a fan of movies: GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. I agree with many of the dour notes that have already been pointed out in this thread. The death of Magda and Nina felt out of place here, and felt like motivation for Erik that should've been part of some other story. (I have always thought this was an important part of Magnus' backstory in the comics but, certainly, we did not need that AND the Auschwitz callback?) Logan was shoehorned in and I didn't appreciate it. Apocalypse was flatly acted and I couldn't help think of a review I read or heard about 'Civil War' - that you really can make a superhero movie with fights that do NOT result in TOTAL destruction of whole cities or countries. I know you have to do something big with a guy named Apocalypse, but around the time that Magento started tearing apart cities on the other side of the world, it felt like Singer was trying to win a bet with Joss Whedon. (I'm also bothered that he jacked up the volume on Magneto's power to 11 while Storm, Psylocke, and Angel got to a...6 at best?)

And I guess I'm the only person who was not enamored with Sophie Turner's Jean? I'm not sure it's the performance as much as the way the character was written to very quickly pivot through relationships and power strength. But I was underwhelmed.

A c-minus movie that possibly sets up an A+ somewhere down the line. But not something I can ever see myself watching again.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenAnyone else miss Eva Bell?Apr 19, 2016 at 4:06 AM

Agreed. The annuals (with that GORGEOUS art by Sorrentino) and the Last Will and Testament arcs really seemed to exhibit a lot of growth in her power set in a very short amount of time, and while I do miss the character some, it's probably not a bad thing for someone that powerful to be put on the back burner for a little while.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenHavok, Sabretooth, & the fallout of AXISApr 19, 2016 at 3:55 AM

Always been a big Alex Summers fan and I've been assuming he was involved in the Noodle Incident.

I am a little disappointed that the Uncanny Avengers' Havok/Wasp/Katie storyline seems to have been discarded outright. I really enjoyed Remender's Vol. 1 - just finished rereading in the other night - and the mashing together of characters that don't normally interact. I thought the revelation that Alex and Janet had a daughter, even amongst their fight to restore the timeline, was a pretty interesting setup. Both were pretty devastated by the loss, then Immortus shows up guaranteeing them they can get her back...and then nothing.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenUnanswered Questions!! (Possibility of Spoilers)Apr 02, 2016 at 5:18 PM

Yeah...but did anything in Uncanny Avengers ACTUALLY HAPPEN?!? (Or even AXIS?)

I ask because we saw Wasp in Wolverine recently and she seems to pretty much be over that whole dead kid thing. And as for Alex...who knows?!?

Nothing has been as big a letdown for me the last few years as Uncanny Avengers. So much promise, so little payoff.

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenOT: The Ultimates explains comic book time.Apr 02, 2016 at 5:15 PM

Seconded for the same reasons. Huge fan of the way he is tying things together, and the writing and art are fantastic. I hope the quality continues AND the sales stay strong enough to allow it!

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenHow long has it ACTUALLY been since Uncanny X-Men 600? (Potentially Spoiler-y)Mar 28, 2016 at 3:02 PM

Yeah! See? This is why I'm so confused. And the Black Panther stuff at the end of SW maybe backs up this theory?

But it's clear that some of the other things that happened in that first 8 month span MUST have happened in one form or another. SPOILER ALERT IF YOU ARENT READING MIGHTY THOR: (Odinson's fall and loss of his arm, for example...)

  • Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenJay & Miles X-Plain the X-MenWhats your favorite forgotten gems?Mar 28, 2016 at 2:59 PM

Yep! I have always loved Texeria's art, and I thought it particularly good in this instance. I really liked the idea of Sabretooth as a more refined killer than the crazy beast he was in the Mutant Massacre era, and I liked the way Mystique was presented, too.
