I think a study like this in terms of gym membership will be pretty similiar. Obviously a lot of people don't use it properly or just buy it.

  • Netflix JunkiesNetflix JunkiesNetflix's "One Day at a Time" Is the Revolutionary, Feminist Latinx Family Sitcom We Didn't Know We NeededJan 15 at 11:53 AM

I really enjoyed it and it pleasantly surprised by the story lines.

It was pretty heavy for a sitcom.

I knew exactly why she made the choices she made and I can even sympathise. On a personal level I was still angry though and I needed to vent.

And lol a more hardy place. So simply by knowing she was a grandmother you know more about her than I do?

I made the right choice for us both.

What absolute nonsense. It has nothing to do about not standing by your words.

When my grandmother was dying she made some pretty weird decisions in terms of treatment.

I fucking hated her for it but also realised she was going through hell and I didn't want to argue in our last months together.

Now luckily I had family members who had the same issues and we supported each other. If my grandmother had heard us or if she had read me venting she would have been very hurt.

If I didn't have a place to vent I would probably have gone insane.

A very familiar story. It is sad that we can see the progress in a lot of mainstream games yet the conversation has turned so sour.

When I go on reddit I want to put my consoles in a box and never look back but when I look at the increased diversity and the rise of some amazing indie developers I feel a lot better.

It seems the silent majority is winning. Now we just need proper moderation in online games.

I'm definitely going to keep wining about "sexy" characters. One of the reasons is because sexy has become code for half naked characters with little to do in terms of plot or gameplay.

This annoys me especially in a game like FFXV where female representation is already very poor.

  • FeminismFeminismAmbivalent sexism: Hostile sexism and Benevolent sexismNov 27, 2016 at 2:00 AM

It is certainly what I have experienced in life.

My husband isn't a typical man. He doesn't do diy, he has no drivers license and he works part-time to take care of the kids.

I often get sympathy from people as if my life is harder because I don't have this classic protector.

Which is nonsense because I got a partner that complements me.

In a lot of ways this benevolent sexism is harder to combat. When women try to address benevolent sexism they are seen as extreme. Feminazis taking things too far. After all those men are only trying to be nice. Yet if we want a truly equal society both kinds of sexism needs to disappear.

Such a shame. Guess I will get mine in the new year.

  • The FempireThe FempireWhat does the alt-right get right, when organizing online?Nov 11, 2016 at 2:13 AM

They give easy answers. Ask an alt right about people having a difficult time of it all and the answer is simple.

    Immigrants, elite, the evil left.

Ask the left the same question and they start talking about the faults of capitalism and the rise of neoliberisme combined with globalisation.

Now ask them both for solutions:

    Alt-right:

Take our country back stop the immigrants and globalisations

    Left:

Within the framework of capitalism it is really hard and we need to have a good sit down and see how we can help everyone the best.

  • PoliticsPoliticsThe architect of the most racist law in modern American history has been named to Trump's teamNov 11, 2016 at 2:06 AM

At this point I'm just hoping he is so extreme that he gets booted after 4 years and the damage hasn't been too big.

    This is really scary stuff....

  • PoliticsPolitics[Post deleted by author]Nov 10, 2016 at 2:39 PM

I doubt it matters to them. They looked at Trump and thought he wasn't the elite. It was a joke to begin with.

You can but the hate often leaks into the good communities and you can't visit all if you don't want to manually filter them out.

And you would still be supporting a site that is totally okay with the hate.

  • IntroductionsIntroductionsSorry, one more refugee here from the dumpster fire that is reddit :DNov 10, 2016 at 12:48 AM

It houses a lot of really bad communities. I've seen comments that support rape, lynching and genocide. The admins don't care until it creates some bad press.

They then close the subreddit but allow the usual clones.

Since a lot of those really bad communities supported Trump I can only imagine it being worse atm with a lot of gloating as well.

I can't believe this is actually happening. I miss growing up thinking the world was on route to become a better place.

I'm getting scared for my sons future. Why does mankind fall towards hatred so easily.

I'm more sure if I agree when talking about prostitution.

In the Netherlands we have had it legal for ages and the safety aspect was always a huge argument for it. However forced prostitution and human trafficking still remain a huge problem.

So even do I support the idea of it being completely legal in an ideal world, I'm not sure if I support it in the current one.

Perhaps the Scandinavian model of making it illegal only for the client fits my view better.

Actually not looking forward to that. It always makes you think why they aren't there during important moments.

I especially liked that Supergirl had some more distance.

  • BOOKSBOOKSWhat's your favorite poem?Jun 02, 2016 at 2:07 PM

Emily Dickinson (1830–86). Complete Poems. 1924.

    Part One: Life

    CXVI

I MEASURE every grief I meet
    With analytic eyes;
I wonder if it weighs like mine,
    Or has an easier size.

I wonder if they bore it long, 5 Or did it just begin?
I could not tell the date of mine,
It feels so old a pain.

I wonder if it hurts to live,
And if they have to try, 10 And whether, could they choose between,
    They would not rather die.

I wonder if when years have piled—
    Some thousands—on the cause
    Of early hurt, if such a lapse 15 Could give them any pause;

Or would they go on aching still
    Through centuries above,
    Enlightened to a larger pain
By contrast with the love. 20

    The grieved are many, I am told;
    The reason deeper lies,—
Death is but one and comes but once,
    And only nails the eyes.

    There ’s grief of want, and grief of cold,— 25 A sort they call “despair”;
There ’s banishment from native eyes,
    In sight of native air.

And though I may not guess the kind
Correctly, yet to me 30 A piercing comfort it affords
    In passing Calvary,

To note the fashions of the cross,
    Of those that stand alone,
Still fascinated to presume 35 That some are like my own.
