As the great Dr. Seuss once said, the people who matter don't mind, and the people who mind can go fuck off.
Or something like that.
Feelin' pretty good about writing myself. More or less tripled the wordcount on my Big Project and started a smaller project that I'm really enjoying. NaNo's been great for me, but I've been treating it as a supplemental thing to my writing lifestyle rather than a demand. I've been getting the most out of it that way.
I just wrote a very hard scene this morning ... nano has really been a nice kick in the ass to get writing. Glad to hear your project is going well!!
One of depression's tricks, I've found, is that it makes you feel like winter is coming no matter how close the proverbial summer might be. Getting a diagnosis, taking these steps--they're all hard, and you should be proud. Keep on keeping on
This is what I do:
Okay, let's say you're 10K behind. So we'll assume you're at 15,000 words. So to meet the NaNo goal (presuming that's something you want to do), you need to write 35K in 16 days (including today; the 15th. if it is the 15th where you are). So let's see ... that'd mean you have to write 35000/16 words per day, or about 2200 words per day. I don't know about you, but that feels a lot more doable, to me, than just saying "I'll crank out a bonus 10K this weekend" or something. The upshot of this approach is that whenever you DO write more than your 2200 per day, you get a nice little extra chip away at that deficit.
I think a part of the problem for a lot of people is that SO MANY games are out right now. I'm playing Titanfall 2 AND Mankind Divided, so as much as I want to get Dishonored 2, it's hard to justify buying another game when I have two I still need to finish
Thanks Kace. :)
Yeah, I'll admit the election of the fascist tangerine kinda stopped me in my previously-rocksteady tracks on NaNo ... but I've worked out that if I do 1750 words a day, I'll meet the goal (better that than trying to force out a boatload of words when I'm not ready to). So I'm gonna try and do that.
Let's go gang.
It's okay to not be ready.
We're with you.
pit bulls are precious angels and anyone who says otherwise is a fool or a liar
cheering you on!
I have a Spotify Playlist of obscure instrumental cyberpunk music I listen to. It gets the job done.
Managed to pound out about 1500 on the ride to work this morning (it's already the first of November in new zealand ... and I have to be on the bus by 5 am). Good luck to everyone!!! You can do it :D
In my own stuff, I get the reverse a lot ... I remember I once made a character basically entirely because of feelings elicited by the Homestuck song "Afraid of the Darko." That character wound up morphing into one who became tremendously important to me. But on the other hand I don't tend to often associate the characters in stuff I'm reading with music, probably because I prefer to read in absolute silence.
That said, I have a running joke with my fiance that the Imagine Dragons song "Demons" is an absolutely hilarious theme song for any Emotionally Fraught character ever. bonus points to imagine the character in question (take your pick) singing mournfully at a karaoke bar.
You don't necessarily have to outright plan or outline, but before you put words on the page just figure out the general gist of what's about to happen. It can save a lot of time spent floundering trying to think of what to write
Isn't there an option now to say you're a passenger?
the feeling of fannish frisson when one of your favourite authors wooos your woopost! Woo!
I'm equal parts excited about Andromeda as I am suspicious that the main quest will involve discovering an ancient race of "shmeapers" who want to destroy organic life because something something
Thanks! I think part of the disconnect I'm feeling is that there's a big difference between imzy and, say, twitter or Tumblr, where the only thing keeping someone from chiming in is a vague sense of boundaries that may or may not be there
"Officially" participating is for jokers
Very excited. Just threw out a brick's worth of word count on a novel to start fresh, so nano is perfectly timed. Good luck to everyone participating!
It's the kind of thing that's tough to call. And I'm probably more than ordinarily wary of that sort of thing right now, because I just moved to New Zealand, and seeing firsthand how Maori people have been/continue to be characterized is ... well, it's not uncomplicated.
Still, Necrotech is absolutely one of the best books I've read in ages, and my love for NT is pretty uncomplicated. Thanks for such a great experience.
thanks :)
no sweat. You deserve to feel better.
Yay or nay to the sharing of this on places like tumblr? I'd like to try and tell people about it, but I don't want to inadvertently share in a way you're not comfortable with.
