For my own part I first got into Cyberpunk for the amazing stories that were crafted by true master storytellers, but I quickly was drawn into both the esthetic and the tech end of things. Gibson was an obvious hero, but I think DKM's The Long Run shaped my appreciation for all things Cyberpunk more than any other work out there.
Perhaps it is because I was so young at the time, but it took me much longer to appreciate and start to understand the cultures and politics contained within most Cyberpunk works.
Now decades later I still love the esthetic and the stories, but I think my wonder has been captured more by watching our world slowly consume, produce, and encompass the visions that those authors have been painting. The technology is more directly interesting to me, but I can't help but notice the social and cultural shifts as well. Things don't always match exactly what was shown to us in those stories, but one might say that they do mirror them darkly.
