• We discussed this in the cap-im IRC tonight, and I was wondering if people would like this comm to merge with cap-im which is on LJ and DW (I second everyone saying DW because of the problem @neurotoxia brought up) or keep it separate. I'm sure the mods for this comm as well as cap-im have their own opinions on this, so the best option would be for them to discuss it as there are pros and cons to both options. Maybe sometime after STH bidding ends, and there's some down time.

I wish DW had some of Imzy's features that I've grown fond of, but DW is a great option. After all, this comm was made because we were all itching for a place where we could congregate, talk, and be a community which is difficult to do on Tumblr, and DW is pretty much a space for discussions and journaling.

  • I know what you mean. I got into LJ in the later years and miss it so I'm eager to try DW out. There are some things that I wish were more streamlined on it, though, especially when comparing the UI to something like Imzy which has its issues, but has a lot of cool functions for a discussion-geared site. :/ WHEN WILL WE GET THE PERFECT SITE FOR FANDOM ACTIVITY?

  • Just curious, but what don't you like about DW? I have an account, but I never used it for anything.

  • Haha thank you! <3

  • I've been meaning to read Shattered for YEARS now. I'll do it one day!

  • I don't know if I can say I have a favorite since I've only written a few fics, but I'll always have a soft spot for my first fic: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1344745

Dark Steve! Obsessive love! Ambiguity! MY FAVORITE THINGS.

Since I generally hate my writing most of the time, I'll allow myself to be proud for once. There are several things I'd like to change, but there are other things I'm proud of. I really like how I tried to show Steve's mindset through the structure. The tempo captures how Steve still feels frozen, and the non-linear narrative is as fractured as his mental state. Neither were deliberately done with those purposes in mind, but they ended up working well with the story I wanted to tell! I also like how I don't reveal whether Tony's aware of Steve's mental state or not.

As for a particular part that I'm really proud of, my favorite line comes down to "The sky was fully red now, bright and bloody like his hands had been the night before" or "They had fallen asleep, cobwebbed in the quiet of dead afternoon hours."

From a technical perspective, however, my favorite has to be http://archiveofourown.org/works/2573882 which ranks the lowest out of the four fics I wrote in this fandom which makes sense due to its length. I love it a lot, though.

LOL I'LL STOP PATTING MYSELF ON THE BACK NOW. BACK TO SELF-FLAGELLATION AND MY ETERNAL STRUGGLE WITH WRITING.

  • My problem is that I struggle with even 5K (my longest fic is 4,277 words and was composed of several short scenes rather than being one continuous story throughout...), so I'm afraid to even offer that. :'( The good thing is that that'll push me, but at the same time I know that might make me miserable and I might not come up with anything good. I guess I'll see what other people think when we have the livechat and see how I feel about it later. I'm glad that I'm still participating in STH even if it's not as a writer, though!

  • Oh yeah, I'm a REALLY slow writer. I'll have to keep the timeline thing in mind if I sign up as a writer.

  • The MCU arc reactor touch one is lovely, but I'm biased because I originally wanted that one until I realized it looked silly as a still (to me) lol. :P My other choice was The Avengers "Captain" "Mr. Stark" scene because I'm so nostalgic for the good old days when everything was new and we had so much HOPE haha.

But I really love the one that I got especially because it feels like it fits me. Can't wait to see what other ones people choose. :) The auction pages will be so pretty to look at!

  • I told myself I wasn't going to sign up as a writer, but seeing all the STH posts make me so excited that I sort of want to...except I know I shouldn't because I always get stuck, and I don't want that to happen to my auction winner if I get bids. Is there are a minimum word count for your upper word count cap? Are you even able to have a word count limit? I don't know if that's fair to bidders, but again, I don't want to screw myself and my auction winner by doing something that I'm unable to do.

Anyway, I'm not that put out because I'm still participating as a creator. Yippee! Not that beta auctions are popular, but it feels great to sign up anyway. \o/ I can't wait to see all the auction pages.

  • I agree. I can't say anything about imzy livechat because I wasn't around the last time there was one, but I'm not sure how good the imzy servers are at handling a lot of traffic which there might be (a lot of people might be interested in participating in STH!).

  • I recommend looking through the Fandom Trumps Hate (FTH) offerings. Here's a list of FTH Steve/Tony creators that Sineala put together: http://cap-ironman.livejournal.com/1649599.html

Some people listed their word count limit and/or minimum bid per tier. Looking at the offerings without that information is helpful too because you can look at their bidding forms and see how much people bid on them.

  • Yay!

  • @Sineala @laireshi @boop? Not sure if any 616 people stop by here a lot. If you don't have any luck with recs, try stopping by the comm's IRC chat. There are always 616 people there! I'll try asking around too if you like.

  • Wait, isn't that the case that SHIELD gave Tony (did they give him one? I feel like I remember Fury or Coulson handing something to Tony)? Or is this another box? I need to rewatch IM2. I haven't seen it in years.

  • I'm the same as you with spoilers, sabre. I remember it getting way too spoilery for Cap 2, and at one point, I just stopped watching all the new teasers they were coming out with because I wanted to feel like I was watching something fresh when I went into the theater, you know? Nowadays, I try to watch one or two trailers and then maybe a short teaser or two, but I generally avoid TV spots because, again, they end up giving too much information.

As someone who hates being spoiled, I pretty much try to block every single tag/hashtag possible and temporarily unfollow people (and once it gets to the release date, I take a much more active approach to avoiding spoilers until I get to watch the thing myself)...I always get upset when people don't tag stuff lol.

A live chat would be fun! Speaking of chats, are we also doing a writer (writer/artist?) chat? I don't remember if we were going to try to make that a monthly thing or if there isn't a set schedule to them.

Very excited for STH! I'm planning on contributing, and hopefully I'll be able to bid on something as well.

Also excited for the Aluminum Anthology! :)

  • Same here, and I loved the Justice League as a kid and was excited about the teaser they released last year. I think it's because of how heavily saturated the trailer was with CGI? It gave off that generic, and most often terrible, blockbuster action movie feeling. And yes, some of the parts were really cheesy to me. :/ I'm hoping for the best, though, because as I said, I loved the JL as a kid, and it would be great to see them on the big screen.

  • Imagine Steve as Tony (Brooklyn Tony, that is :P)! Sweet puppy Steve who's besotted with Tony. Steve who wants to build Tony a home and be his home in the U.S. Steve who persuades Bucky to help him write love letters to Tony when he goes back to Europe because Bucky's so good at being romantic and he's not. Steve who's poor and doesn't have much to offer, so he's secretly afraid that Tony won't come back!

  • I once wanted to write a Brooklyn AU after watching the movie, which I had conflicted feelings about, although somewhat altered (Tony being the one to immigrate, for one thing), but it got kind of complicated in my head and I have a lot of WiPs. Maybe one day.

  • I think the problem I'd run into if I keep them young and make this a pro AU is that I want Steve to wonder what it's like playing in the big leagues (while Tony has experience playing professionally) even if he's the captain of his team which is possible if he's in college, but not so much if he's pro because he'd be too young. I'll have to think about it some more!

  • This looks SO pretty compiled together in one post. __<33333 SO PRETTTTYYYY

  • ALL THE STEVES GRAB TINY TONY IN A BIG GROUP HUG.

  • This is one of my favorites too!

  • I love Shaliara's artwork too! You don't get to see much traditional work in fandom, especially in pencil, and I LOVE Shaliara's style. She's so good at getting Steve and Tony's expressions just right, and I also really love the way that she draws muscled Tony because as you said, we don't get to see that that often!

  • It's a soccer AU! And I don't really have much of a preference because I can see things I can write in both that I can't write in the other fic...I think I prefer them being younger, but I keep going back and forth on this.
