• If it's at all encouraging, it's actually made of 50% pentagonal granny squares

  • Lying. The correct answer is Team Ghüs or bust.

  • you're giving them too much credit

Uh, excuse me? Don't you tell me how I think, you "puppy tummy tickler." Why don't you go "volunteer at a homeless shelter" you "delightful and temperate picnic-haver." I bet you and all of your "charity potluck-enjoying" friends are all going to go "have very comfortable naps" anyway. Suck on that "ice-cold glass of mildly honey-sweetened Oolong tea."

  • Granted, I imagine that most of the men who abuse others online actually respect the women in their lives. But maybe they'd say they respect their mothers, or sisters.

I'm sorry to be so contrary, but do you feel that if they kept calling people "faggot" that they "respect the homosexuals in their lives?" I just feel like you're hoping for the best case scenario in a population that has not proven itself to deserve that assumption.

  • So fun fact that hopefully provides another kernel of happiness out of this bit of misery: some faiths use this as a form of meditation. If you've had any exposure to Hare Krishnas you might have heard their rather repetitive prayer chants. Now I wish I could find a danged source for this (which I can't at the moment, as it's late and my eyes are all sleep-blurry) but from my conversations with them they've told me they consider that moment when their chant of "Hare Krishna, Hare Rama" ceases to have meaning is when they are closest to god.

They also have fantastic recipes for addictive vegan salad dressing.

  • Sense8 was absolutely amazing. If you've ever thought, "what would happen if they took an episode of Fringe, stretched it out, fleshed out all of the characters and then sprinkled on some social issues?" then you need to give it a shot.

  • Woah, woah, woah. Am I reading Wikipedia right? Are you telling me W+D is about a bunch of bisexual, reincarnated religious deities? Those are pretty much my two favorite things.

I'm now honestly paralyzed over whether or not I should walk back to the comic store and just pick up the first TP sight unseen.

  • It's amazing how much it reflects in their choice of insults. There all kinds of things they could have assaulted him with that would be universally hurtful, but they instead focus on these aspects that they cling to as a measure of human value but may have no worth to anyone else.

I'm particularly fascinated by the rise of "cuck" as this purported atom bomb of anti-feminist insults. Not only is it a behavior that some people are perfectly okay with, but that others thoroughly enjoy (if you catch my drift.) It's like insulting someone by calling them an "ice cream muncher": all it does is just reveal that you're lactose intolerant, confused and should probably stop hanging out at a Dairy Queen.

  • Does Saga count? I mean the main characters are a heteronormative couple, outside of the obvious forbidden bat-woman and horned-moon-man interspecies Shakespearean angle, but the rest of the cast seems pretty inclusive. I commandeered the first few issues and fell in love with it. Just picked up the first deluxe hardcover this afternoon and I'm itching to get out of work and dive into it.

Sadly being in the comic book store reminded me that the second Bitch Planet trade paperback hasn't come out yet, and now I am sad again.

  • Well thank you so much! Don't forget to make them tiny centurion helmets too, for safety. You can find the balaclava pattern here on Ravelry, if you're interested.

  • What have been some of your favorite things (hanging with the bestie excluded) to do down here so far?

  • I'm Al, from Austin, Texas. I mentally think of myself as bisexual--since that was the only option when I was a wee lad--or queer, but I just love everyone and everything (assigning bonus points if they like wearing sundresses to a picnic.) I'm male and identify as such, but I give it as much weight and it matters as much to me on a day to day basis as the current surface temperature of Alpha Centauri A. My hobbies include crafts (crochet and knitting, mostly,) cooking, videogames, sex positivity, movies (Alamo Drafthouse is amazing, y'all!) and boardgames. I recently picked up a VR headset, so you can usually find me standing in my living room for hours at a time, punching out balls of musical space-goo to the soundtrack of Hamilton.

I also have absolutely crippling social anxiety, so how I managed to post this in the first place I'll never now. Realistically I'm going to spend the next 48 hours suffering from constant regret about engaging with people and rocking on the floor, hyperventilating in the fetal position. Hopefully that won't stop me from getting to meet some awesome folks here, though.

  • So a million high five all around for hanging out in Austin (and hopefully enjoying our delightful food scene,) but I'm really commenting because I'm crazy curious about your shirt. Where in the world did you get it?

  • It really does look great. I can't wait to see the finished beanie because I am digging that pattern.
