Marriage has always been a contract, so why not discuss fixed-term contracts? I want to stay with Susie, and I hope I can, but I would have preferred to sign up for 10 years because “for ever” makes me panic.
I'm the opposite. Thinking of an end to my marriage makes me panic. I do understand, though, that this is not for everyone. Things change. And I've always supported divorce in cases of abuse.
