Yess puppies are also wonderful in piles :) Any small furry mammal will generally be wonderful in piles. Reptiles/birds/amphibian babies are also very cute but tend not to pile as well

Probably the avian respiratory system! Birds don't have a diaphragm so their breathing is kind of in two steps. The First step fills one set of air sacs, then when they exhale it moves into the lungs. During the second inhale the air moves to the next set of air sacs, then exhaled back out the mouth.

Also some of their bones communicate with these air sacs (pneumatic bones). Since in order to give some fluids you place an IO (intraosseus) cather into a bone, you need to make sure it isn't one that communicates with air sacs or you'll drown the bird!

I'm one of those kids that had an animal nerd phase but mine just never ended. I remember getting one of those giant encyclopedias of animals and reading it cover to cover all the time when I was younger.

Then once I discovered science and biology I knew it was a good fit. The body is a remarkable thing, and learning about how different species have such differences in their biology but at the same time are so similar is just fascinating
