A hit and miss week thanks this being a week off from work: a week where I tackled a few additional responsibilities that were far more time consuming than planned and had me out of the house for very long hours for half of the week. In retrospect, I accomplished a significant amount on half of my goals, especially UF*YH and life streamlining. Writing fiction, reading fiction, and tracking food/calories were hit and miss all week, although effort was made even if only 4 days out of 7 on each.
Not sure if want to call the week "Pretty good" or "Not great." It was pretty good at getting important stuff done including things related to goals but only okay at sticking to the letter of the law regarding the daily habits I am trying to establish. Hopefully next week goes better as I will be back to my normal work Mon-Fri schedule so my days are very predictable and pretty mundane.
Ugh. Steam and EA fighting over permissions on that game sounds like hell.
I played the Cullen romance with a mage inquisitor and even as a mage that issue was addressed directly in a thoughtful matter rather than as High Drama. I liked it although, yes, it definitely left potential for people to interpret it how ever they wish in fanfic, art, or comics. I am glad that the dev team included this relationship because I also find it pleasant to have a the option for a low drama relationship in these kinds of games.
Plus fanartists are so good at taking his Hot As Fuck self and making even hotter.
I'm with you on how Cullen's character development across the games has immense potential for writers. That is the thing that has held my interest over the years and I have had many intense canon+headcanon discussions in the past that has inspired a lot of half-written fanfic. I just need a kick in the rear to finally get some of that fic finished and posted. >_<
Have you written any DA fanfic?
The one benefit of playing the games in reverse order is that Cullen ages as you play rather than de-aging if you start with DAO first. ;D
Before Cullen's official age was announced by the person who wrote him in DAI, I remember all the arguments fandom had over his age because he acts sooooooo young in DAO yet he looks so old.
I suspect it is. Let me know if you hear back from them with a solution.
Yeah, EA can be horrible. I had so much trouble with EA when I tried to install the DLCs for DAO. :/
The romance in Inquisition was so sweet. Even though some people criticized it for lacking high drama, I really liked how Cullen is portrayed as a supportive partner.
Ah... What would you have of me? (skip to 0:48) ... that voice acting adding layers of potentially unintended depth and innuendo to the Ol' Knight Captain. ;D
I'm such a sucker for deeply conflicted characters and DA2 Cullen is all of that. So much potential for interesting headcanon and fanfic thanks to all of the ways we can interpret what is going and how Hawke (or others) played a role in Cullen's thinking. Fandom definitely rose to the challenge. <3
I just tried to do this and failed. I cannot edit the date-time field on my phone. So, nope. No luck either.
Maybe raise this issue with imzy in their community?
Old School: I started off with a female Surana warden when I first played Dragon Age Origins. Cullen's small part in the mage warden origin story mashed my trope buttons and that pretty much defined my involvement in Dragon Age fandom throughout the years and all three games.
Head on over to the welcome post and the other pinned posts. :D
Welcome aboard!
Hey! I didn't realize that you responded to this until just the other day. Sorry for the delay over here. Life got in the way. The community is now alive and set up for Culleny goodness.
I just joined this community today but I started thinking about the goals I wanted to do this month before I saw this community so I have half of head start, I guess?
Goal 1. Daily declutter/streamline/organize: Folded and put away laundry today (sunday). Goal 2. Daily fiction reading: Have been reading a mix of fanfic and original fiction every day since the middle of last week. Making progress on reading a novel. Goal 3. Daily fiction writing: ...crickets... I really need to get on this tomorrow. Goal 4. Daily acts of fandom positivity: Joined a forum where a few prior fandom friends have moved to and have participated regularly for the past few days. Caught up with fandom friends on Dreamwidth (I was away for part of august). Getting into the headspace to make+post fanworks once again. Goal 5. Healthy eating? Hm. Since the month started probably 50% of my food choices have been good and 50% have been not so good. I need to start keeping a food diary asap.
I'm coming in a few days late but I here goes:
Spent at least 20 every day doing something to organize, declutter, simplify, or streamline my life. I plan to use the UF*YH approach. My main focus is my physical space but my electronic space also counts too although only as a secondary priority.
Read fiction for at least 30 minutes every day. I used inhale fiction and then ... I don't know what happened. For this goal, all fiction counts: novels, short stories, flash fiction, graphic novels, original fiction and fan fiction. Just read fiction everyday and enjoy the act of reading.
Write fiction. Engage in at least one 15 minute writing sprint per weekday/workday. Engage in at least three 15 minute writing sprints on weekends/days-off. Additionally, fit in at least 2 editing/rewriting sessions in per week (probably on weekends). I have been part of the GetYourWordsOut2016 challenge and I was doing well until the summer randomized my life. Time to get disciplined.
Fandom positivity. Engage in one positive act of fandom goodness per day. This can be as simple as leaving a positive comment somewhere in the fandom universe or it can be more involved like posting something consumable (fanfic, art, recs, etc.) for fandom to enjoy. This matters to me because I was initially spoiled by being in a wonderful fandom back on LJ during the '00s. When fandom moved to tumblr and when, at the same time, I got involved in a more contentious fandom, my experience became ... less positive. I need fandom positivity back in my life and now is the time to make this a goal. :)
Healthy eating and tracking what I eat. I used to use MyFitnessPal. Time to get back to it or some similar app and minding what I eat. Doing weekly menu planning is my stretch goal.
Your bronze/silver/gold system is wonderful. Thanks for sharing it!
This primer is pure gold. Greatly looking forward to your recs.
I got on this thing in the middle of the summer and then I wasn't online much and then fandom suddenly arrived.
Have you seen the discussions on https://www.imzy.com/fail_fandom_anon ? Much useful pertaining to fandom on imzy.
This is my life.
Yay!
