What's the point of that? Sounds like zero fun.
Let's Grab Coffee is one of the friendliest places on Imzy! Just dive on in to the conversation and you'll have a whole bunch of new friends before you know it. The community leader, @Eilis, is great. (I think there are a bunch of leaders, but @Eilis seems the most active.)
What are your interests?
Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew. Ughhhhhh this has me squirming so hard.
Good art, but NOPE NEVER LOOKING AT THIS AGAIN IF I CAN HELP IT.
I've found that the easiest way to find active communities is to go to the communities list (a.k.a. the little telescope icon in the top right of the page) and sort by "Activity." That'll show you the super large/active groups.
I'm sure the folks at Imzy will have more to say in terms of getting notifications, but I hope this is helpful for you in the meantime. :)
These nails would be perfect for the Evil Queen from Once Upon a Time. They remind me of her Enchanted Forest costumes.
Whoa. You did that? So pretty!
It's a weird combination of colors, but I still like the end result.
Cold air and heavy blankets. We finally got a cool, rainy day and I am so looking forward to getting my first good night's sleep in a while!
Maybe. It seems like it must be generational, though. My dad is great at thinking far ahead, as is my partner's dad. So were both my grandpas, the only great-grandpa I ever met, and most of my uncles. That's just one family, but it does seem like there are different attitudes in this generation of men.
That is awesome! Your aunt sounds like a very cool lady.
I wonder why that is? It doesn't make sense to me... but then, I'm not a man and can't speak to the male experience.
I'd honestly never heard of Alison Mosshart before now... but she seems like a hell of an artist and I loved the music in the video. She's got such a gritty but ethereal sound.
This is a much more complicated issue than I realized. I always thought the Nordic model was definitely the way to go, so it's interesting to see how not even that ends up providing sex workers with enough protection.
I don't necessarily love the billboard, but I totally get why they chose that image and I get why they didn't realize the connotations.
Jennifer Lawrence is a big deal. Lots of people love her, and lots of people are going to be more interested in the X-Men movies because she's in them and because Mystique is an interesting and complicated character. She's one of the film's big selling points.
The goal of a billboard or trailer selling a movie (or other story) is to catch your attention and heighten your interest. Tension does that. Tension is the engine behind the majority of the stories we consume via movies, TV shows, and books. Every good story has this idea of something we love or something that's noble being threatened.
So, if you want to sell X-Men... take the biggest name the movie's got and imply that that beloved person/character is being threatened by the bad guy/opposing force. It's logical. It gets attention. It creates personal investment.
It was a terrible idea, in this case, because the person being threatened happened to be a woman and the opposing force happened to be a large, brutal-looking man... but I don't see it as being an intentional exploitation of violence against women as a general theme.
I LOVE what she says about the grassroots Women on 20s movement. Like, she saw a grassroots movement, she liked it, she championed it... THAT'S the kind of person I want representing me.
This is just anecdotal, so take it for what it's worth, but this doesn't surprise me at all because I'm the breadwinner in my relationship and that's not seen as an unusual thing anymore in my social circle. It might have been a few years ago, but right now, it seems pretty common for the women in my friends groups to be out-earning the men. I'm not sure why, but the women just seem to be more driven and have more of a desire to pay their own way. The guys, on the other hand, seem more interested in quality of life and not stressing themselves out too much.
Again, totally anecdotal and hard to say what's actually happening with these bigger-picture numbers. They jive with my experiences, though.
I'm nonreligious and believe in most scientific models, and I agree. Not because I think God created everything and so it can't possibly be natural selection, but because we just don't have that much evidence for the current model of evolution. Same thing as when people claim the age of the universe like it's a fact. That theory is actually based on some pretty big assumptions, and if one of those assumptions is proved wrong, our understanding of the earth's age will change dramatically.
I guess that's why I love science so much. There's never a final answer.
That's interesting! I've donated all sorts of stuff and thought it was kind of weird, too, but not to the level of not wanting to do it. Thanks for sharing! I'm feeling slightly less judgmental of people who aren't organ donors now, and being less judgey is always a good thing. :)
Wow, I hadn't thought about it to this extent, but I feel the same way. I always make extra effort to be friendly with cashiers, food service workers, and other people likely not making great money because I know what a miserable experience that is. I always feel slightly guilty for being there and making them work, like I think I'm better than them or something.
I've been reading Wife Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife by Anne Fogarty. I absolutely love vintage and antique fashion, housekeeping, and lifestyle guides, and this one has not been a disappointment. In between passionate rants about the importance of having tidy gloves at all times and truly outdated suggestions on which furs to buy, there's some great style advice on timeless style and how to keep up a high-quality wardrobe. Not that I'll ever take any of that advice, because I'm lazy, but I love daydreaming about myself as the kind of woman who coordinates.
If you like young adult fiction and/or scifi, I loved the audiobooks of Cinder and the rest of The Lunar Chronicles. The books are awesome and original and the narrator is one of the best I've ever heard.
If you like scifi/humor, I also recently heard The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as narrated by Stephen Fry, is perfect. I've read the book but haven't heard that audio version... but come on, it's Stephen Fry.
I hope your traps work perfectly! I suspect Mom and Baby will both be grateful for some regular food and shelter.
It's beautiful!
Ughhhhhhhh I'm so sorry. Sending you all the virtual empathy chocolate!
