Do you think it sounds like the handmaid tail?
Would you like to know more about the setting? It's more of a concept at this point.
What do you think clothing for men and women should look like in a matriarchy? Should men be the more "extravagant" sex?
War and violence are not frowned upon if they are directed outwards against other races. Violence toward people of the community is what is discouraged. Honor is highly valued, and those who don't prescribe to it are ostracized in some way. Men tend to be more susceptible to this. Those who are too rebellious or commit crimes against the state can be exiled. This can be difficult for them, as most wealth is tied up in the clan.
- No. It was an idea I had, but I scrapped it because it sounded too much like an ant hill society.
- No I haven't thought about that.
- Men's roles are valued, because the world is pretty hostile. Mankind is united against supernatural forces, and men are expected to defend the nation from them. As a result, they are seen as important.
- The religious and cultural forces are strong, and ingrained into people from childhood. And like I said, there are supernatural forces like demons that walk the earth, and that outside pressure has led to a conservative and traditional society where men and women are expected to adhere to these roles.
- Same sex relationships are not frowned upon adhss long as both people perform their reproductive duties when required. Let me know what you think of this.
Magic takes the place of science, and women as a group control the means of production. Growing crops, technology, etc.
Honestly I haven't thought about that? How do you think I should address it?
Crystals that power machinery, alchemy, transportation portals, runes that create heat: these are some of the ways magi tech is used. Children are raised by the mothers clan, and marriage does not exist as we understand it. Father figures would be uncles, cousins, and other men of the woman's clan.
Thanks for the feedback. But I'm stuck on how a society like this would function. If women could choose to make their child a boy or girl, there may be some gender imbalance between the sexes. Do you believe reproduction would have to be regulated in some way? By some high council or some equivalent?
