I played it so much! Of course, now I hardly remember anything I learned. D:
Me, too. I feel like with Variks and bits of the lore some of the groundwork is already laid, but Rise of Iron just had to go and make a Fallen faction the big bad... Well, we'll see, I guess! My fingers are crossed hard for Destiny 2 to bring us allied Fallen, and if Bungie would like to cater to me personally, the ability to make Fallen Guardians of our own. XD
Awesome! I never did manage to get the multiplayer working for me, but I loved the story so much. And there is a server that lets you do multiplayer for the Aleph One versions, so perhaps it could be arranged this Saturday...
Skolas made some valid points! (Not that I don't love Variks and Mara Sov, buuuuuuut just judging by the things you can hear the Awoken in the Vestian Outpost say, I have a feeling the House of Wolves weren't actually treated all that well in the Reef. Variks has to put up with so much.)
Lot of Destiny. Why can't I just live on Mars, I don't mind having Cabal, Vex, and the remnants of the House of Wolves for neighbors.
Haha, it is a pretty old game and it was Mac-only on release, so I'm not surprised it doesn't come up much. XD But now it is available for free to everyone, so I'm always trying to get more people to play it! It has such a great story (and it's a lot of fun, too).
Great, I will do my best to plan something! (I do play a ton of Destiny, which is multiplayer, but I was thinking it'd be fun if I could have a session for Marathon, too.)
I think I'd be down with this! Do they have to be multiplayer games, then? Or could you set it up for non-multiplayer games where everyone takes a run at them and then checks back in with their thoughts/comments?
And Marathon: Infinity!
Although I'm a big Bungie fan, I didn't get a chance to play Halo for years (no XBox). I did, however, get incredibly sucked into World of Warcraft by my friends! ... who were all playing on a PvP server where our side (Horde) was outnumbered at least 2:1, maybe even worse.
... so most of my memories are of getting ganked while minding my own business because I wasn't interested in PvP/too low-level to fight back. I used to keep a list of all the characters I'd get revenge on when I hit 60 - except I ended up transferring to a PvE server instead. A much better fit for me!
(You are not alone. Poor Rinna!)
Both. Both is good.
... best is AI/cyborg, not that I am in any way biased. ¬_¬
Marathon: Infinity is a hell of a trip to go into blind. "Ne Cede Malis" is an incredibly spooky introductory level - and reading a message from Durandal where he admits defeat only makes it worse - and then you get thrown into working for the villain from the second game, and then you run into the dream levels and everything switches around again... Maybe it's more WTF than actual scary, but I still get the shivers playing it. Fantastic atmosphere, that game.
Also, absolutely seconding the asylum part of Bioshock Infinite. Though mostly I wanted to cry because ELIZABETH, NO, MY BABY. Bioshock had a couple of great scares, too, like the first time you meet a Big Daddy...
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening! And then I discovered Marathon... Tie between the two of them, I guess.
I also used to play Odell Down Under an embarrassing amount.
Haha, I am not really active here at all but it's hard to resist joining a community so excellent for my interests. :D
THE BEST OF TROPES. \o/
Name you go by: Hokuto
Tumblr/LJ/DW username: hokuton-punch, AO3 username: Hokuto
Which canons are you into?: Right now, primarily Destiny and Marathon with a side of Red vs. Blue, but I'm into a lot of other things more casually, including Imperial Radch, Ex Machina, the Netflix Voltron series, Isaac Asimov's robot books, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein, the Iconoclast album by Symphony-X, and a couple of older/more obscue AI-centric canons like Colossus: The Forbin Project (A VERY INTERESTING MOVIE) and The Adolescence of P-1.
Your favorite characters/ships within those canons: I LOVE EVERYONE IN THE DESTINY AND MARATHON BARS, and most characters in RvB! Durandal from Marathon is possibly my one true character of all time, but I love the other AIs in Marathon too (yes, even Tycho, sort of), and I ship the living daylights out of Durandal/security officer. I'm also super interested in the Warmind Rasputin from Destiny, who is still a giant mystery, and I've had a crush on R. Daneel Olivaw since childhood. In RvB I love Church and Tex, and I think my favorite of the AI fragments is probably either Omega/O'Malley or Delta. Mike from The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress IS PRECIOUS.
Your favorite robot/AI trope(s) in fiction: ANYTHING JUST FUCK ME UP. But especially AIs who could take or leave most humans but have one or two favorites who are just special, damnit, don't ask so many questions. Also I like it when the AI/robot wins. Sorry, fellow meatbags.
What's your favorite type of robot/AI?: SARCASTIC ONES.
Rec something AI/robot-related you created: AI Satan of Future Hell, wherein Durandal and HAL 9000 meet. (Okay, so I mostly like this one for the title.)
Rec something AI/robot-related created by someone else: Before Crisis by GeneralRADIX, a really great take on Durandal and the security officer's first (pre-Pfhor invasion) meeting!
This sounds really interesting, I'll have to check it out!
Never have actually played Half-Life (and really need to!), so I don't personally have any strong feelings about it, but a bait-and-switch like that seems a little cruel.
Oh, that's an old favorite of mine! I love this one. <3
