• I was so excited to see MAYVINNN show up in ep 13 and it's really nice that Sorey remembered the quest to find a way to purify dragons. Nice scene with Rose at the end too, here's to hoping the anime manages to find a more coherent way to bring across its morality tale lol

All in all I'm glad it's back! trash tier introduction to rolance for not having the fake marriage scene with sergei tho

  • Yeah the pre-order bonuses are kind of lame all round :c The PS4 one says it comes with a theme but if it's the same as the Japanese one, it's just a background lol

  • Wow, nice! I still haven't played either of the Symphonia games but I really need to, I keep hearing great things about them.

  • I added them to the poll! You know, I actually did play Innocence but apparently I blocked the existence of a mascot there from my mind, lol.

  • welp the post is late because Berseria took up all my free time and I was pretty bored with the last episode but we're back on track! It looks like they're skipping the entire squire subplot but I think it works more naturally than the game when they don't have to worry about people having to play with half a party lol. The Alisha/Rose showdown was pretty great.

and then bla bla malevolence bla purification just kidding I still love you Sorey and the insight into human malevolence was interesting. And I guess we remembered that local seraphs are a thing?

  • So the dragon at Ladylake wasn't Eizen, after all. I'm sorry for sullying your good name, Eizen! Edna is the best as always and managed to knee Sorey in the face in the first second of meeting him. My face was :( throughout the entire fight with Eizen, though. Mason lived in the anime, so maybe this is the best timeline where Eizen can be saved....?!

  • And he names them after your party! Peony is the best, second only to the rappigs.

  • And I just picked up Rokurou's swimsuit costume so I guess I can corroborate now, lol.

  • That's actually the normal price for Japanese Tales costume DLC lol :( I believe costume DLC tends to be cheaper for localised releases. Swimsuit costumes haven't been in-game for the past 3-4 releases :| I've heard but cannot corroborate that there are non-DLC swimsuit costumes you can get in Berseria. I definitely have gotten more in-game costumes so far than Zestiria or Xillia though which were mostly recolour city.

The DLC outfits are really disappointing this time around. I paid money for a bunch of Zestiria ones because I am part of the problem, but these are just ehhh.

  • I haven't been in a position to play any of the newer games in co-op, but I do miss it.

Awesome! Vesperia's a great place to start. Here's to more tales fans, haha.

  • Thanks! I've added it to the poll. Going through the theme songs again was a big nostalgia trip for me. The Tales of Eternia OP takes me straight back to co-oping in my best friend's living room, except we hadn't quite grasped the concept of skill mapping so 2P was usually a caster and we'd be in the menus every few seconds lol.

  • My confession is that I'm only familiar with the games on playstation systems ;o; I need to branch out lol. I also like Kane wo Narashite (fun in karaoke!) and the Xillia OP has a really nice animation/direction.

  • It really is so good, and I love how meaningful the lyrics are for the game and the different arrangements they use in-game. The music box version that plays when Asch and Luke fight... ;_;

  • So Eizen popped by to casually cause a natural disaster and then fuck off back to his mountain. Thanks, Eizen. Also, since I'm playing Berseria now, dragon Eizen is giving me mixed feelings. I lie, my feelings are not mixed, they are pure :(

Like 99% of the fandom I was expecting the argument to be this episode but nope. It somehow managed to be even more romantic and they weren't even together for half the episode?? It's terrible. I can't even find a mean pithy remark to make. help.

  • You can use the code BNE15OFF at checkout for a further discount!

  • While the anime increased my interest in playing the game, if you're already intending to import, I recommend not watching it until after you finish playing the opening. Knowing what was going to happen made the opening dungeon kind of a drag to get through, but it was interesting comparing some of the differences and also knowing the translated names and terms is really useful.

  • I enjoyed the game because I play Tales for character interactions and I mostly liked the characters in Zestiria, but it was definitely flawed in a lot of ways not even related to the heroine drama.

Which was a silly drama anyway because obviously the heroine was Mikleo.

  • My shameful confession is that I actually have never played Symphonia, even though I picked up the PS3 digital version when it was on sale. My backlog conspires against me and also the fact that I'm kind of vaguely spoiled for it through memes. I should find some time for it... some time... ...

  • I know! I mean, for better or for worse, out of all the Tales games I've played, it's the one I have the strongest feelings about. I mean, apart from my strong feelings about Graces which I probably shouldn't get into lol.

  • yep! It's airing in Japan now and being streamed simultaneously on funimation and daisuki. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The animation quality is fantastic and they're doing a lot of small changes to make the story flow better.

  • so I don't actually know if it's my favorite but I voted Abyss because it's the only game I was particularly fannish about and spent literally a couple of years reading Japanese time travel fix-it fics from the Abyss text search engine, back in the days before pixiv and when fandom-specific search engines were a thing.

BUT I wouldn't have had to read all that fix-it fic if 90% of the cast didn't consist of assholes and terribleness so if I tried to play it right now I'm not sure my 3DS would survive me introducing it to the wall. You would think a favorite game would invoke more fond feelings and not blinding rage...

by which I mean let's also talk about why your favs are your favs
