Thank you for the luck! Imzy is a very, very good site for actually talking to people. I'm loving it so far <3 Hope to see you around!

  • The Pen PotThe Pen PotWriting Is HardSep 11, 2016 at 10:30 AM

Definitely. I just wish it was a little easier to rise to the challenge!

I've never been a huge one for mpreg either, but sometimes it takes my fancy. It's still one of those things I've never done, but eh, maybe one day =D

Aw, thank you. Next update's on Friday this week (so the 16th!)

He longed to linger here, listening to whatever Bilbo had to say. He wanted to share the hours of the day and night, but instead duty called, and he could not refuse to answer. ‘I had best find Balin. No doubt there is plenty that needs my attention.’

He tried not to puff up his chest with pleasure and pride at the hobbit’s unmasked dejection. Instead, he wrapped his hand around Bilbo’s shoulder, giving it an urgent squeeze. ‘I will be taking my evening meal in the healing rooms,’ he explained, knowing that Balin would probably protest the notion, but not caring one bit. ‘Join me?’

Thank you lovely, that means a lot to me! "Purple prose" means very flowery and descriptive, often to the point of detracting from the story because it's just too much. I think as others have said, it's very much a matter of taste!

No problem at all. I hope you like checking out Imzy <3

  • The Pen PotThe Pen PotWhat Writers Really MeanSep 07, 2016 at 6:39 AM

It gave me a good chuckle XD

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 07, 2016 at 6:36 AM

I'm sorry to hear you hit it young, JT. And I'm with you, it makes me rage-face these days. It really does.

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 07, 2016 at 6:35 AM

I was wondering if that was the case - people misusing the term to mean "the fics descriptive" as opposed to "the description is so beyond the pale that it detracts from hte story at all moments". However, I get overwrought, too, so...

As for taking what beta readers say with a grain of salt, absolutely. I've had beta readers in the past who've made grammatically incorrect "corrections" and all sorts. Nightmare!

I actually laughed at someone telling you your title was not adequately poetic! (in a sympathetic, OMG really way, not a nasty way.) I have to admit some of the things commenters come out with at time can be... bizarre.

Thanks, Fiery, I think my frustration definitely stems from the fact I took the crit on board, made adjustments, and still it's something I'm told now and then. But you're right, I think at this point it's no longer a flaw, but a stylistic quirk.

  • The Pen PotThe Pen PotAw yiss!Sep 07, 2016 at 6:27 AM

    \o/ I know I'm dead pleased!

  • The Pen PotThe Pen PotAw yiss!Sep 06, 2016 at 11:46 AM

99.9% of the time I'm doing exactly what you're doing, I promise! After a while you get an instinct about the balance (you're already building it I'm sure, whether you know it or not.) I actually really struggled to explain what I meant by overplaying the intimacy, because it 's something quite instinctive =D

  • FanfictionFanfictionUpdate Schedule?Sep 06, 2016 at 10:44 AM

I edit my wips chapter by chapter and post and then do one last edit at the end, mostly for SPaG. It's worked relatively well for me so far but my aim is not a perfect finished piece. It's just something that can be enjoyed serially and as whole =) I intend to try the write it all, edit, then post method with my next project.

Thank you! That's really reassuring <3 (And I am so glad you like my work!)

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:56 AM

Thank you! I feel the same about it these days. I've been told to use a thesaurus less (which is annoying, because I rarely use one at all) and it's very tempting sometimes to tell the commeter to make better use of the dictionary.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates the phrase!

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:53 AM

I know just how you feel. Rewriting can be gutting!

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:52 AM

Lol, that's just... useless. How can you even work with that? I bet it stung. I'm wincing in sympathy!

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:50 AM

It happens probably twice a year or so, and has done for about 15 years. I only write fanfic, yeah, but since it's a consistent complaint I tend to credit it. (a bit)

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:44 AM

    Awesome, thank you <3

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:44 AM

Lol, yeah me too. That really hideous 70s carpet you get sometimes...

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:42 AM

Thanks, Grackle! I have pretty much found a balance I like (though obviously it's continually refined. I think all writers are always refining every moment, consciously or unconsciously) "Purple prose" has literally just become one of those phrases that makes me twitch -D)

  • FanfictionFanfictionI hate the phrase "purple prose"Sep 06, 2016 at 9:38 AM

I'll have to check out Cathrynne Valente! And you're right. In the end if I'm happy with it, that's what matters. It probably wouldn't matter to me so much if I hadn't been hearing it for years XD Repeated concrit does seem a bit more valid, if only because more than one people have considered it an issue.

  • The Pen PotThe Pen PotWelcome to The Pen Pot!Sep 06, 2016 at 9:30 AM

Oh! it might be terrible. It's old as balls XD If you do check it out and enjoy it, that's wonderful, but just bear in mind I've got better over hte past decade XD
