    Holy shit. Oh FF, wtf

  • Readers of RiversReaders of RiversHow did you find Rivers?Sep 24, 2016 at 3:20 AM

Hmm. I was in a bookshop one day and I saw Rivers of London. Read the first couple pages and went "yeah I could give it a go." Promptly consumed in about 5 hrs. That was also the day I encountered The Rook. It was a very good day for me all together.

Now I've managed to get three other people into the books.

It would not surprise me at all to find out Nightingale or Walid have looked into it, and Nightingale is being a typical hold things back kind of mentor.

Hmm, I feel like Nightingale's apathy regarding his aging is reflective of his isolation post the war. Like, before the story starts Nightingale's world was basically his two friends, the policemen who treat him as suspiciously as they treat the criminals, and his empty mausoleum of a home. It wouldn't surprise me if he retreated from the world to a point where he probably didn't notice he was aging wrong, and then when he did, it didn't matter because very little mattered to him at that point.

    All headcanons of course!

Oh god, why'd you have to remind me of the midichlorians. The worst plot device ever.

I think what Aaronovitch does really well with Peter is that Peter respects everyone he meets. To varying degrees! Not only that, he also listens to them, might not agree with them but he does listen. So that comes through in how we see Ty and Seawoll who could easily have been written as harridans or nags. And even Lesley, as questionable as she has become, you can still understand that Peter feels some form of kinship with her and he gets why she might have gone dark side.

Sorry it got a bit rambly, but Aaronovitch writes females from male PoV really well basically haha.

Ditto! I don't normally care about spoilers but I will make an exception for this one, so here's hoping there's no long gap btw release dates.

Yeah. I was assuming early 2017 at this point.

I'm torn between Soren, Lucius and Lyn. My speedy glass cannons.

The thing about Lady Ty is that she is an absolute jerk but she suggests some very necessary improvements. Sure, they're to her advantage but still she makes some good point. I cannot wait for a show down between her and Mama Thames (you know it's coming).

I would love a Star Wars and RoL fusion fic. I just love fusion fics. Nightingale casually blowing up a Y-wing starfighter (the closest to a tiger tank I could think of). Force-sensitive Lesley. The Rivers of London as beings of the pure force etc
