Jewish Dietary Practices
You may have seen a section in the grocery store labeled Kosher and wondered what it means. Essentially, these are foods that have been approved to meet the Jewish dietary restrictions as written in both Deuteronomy and Leviticus.
Here are a few introductory resources concerning Jewish dietary practices:
- A well written scholarly article from the Jewish Encyclopedia
- An article entitled Making Sense of Kosher Laws from Bible History Daily
- A very interesting timeline , from Kosher Certification, with general turning points in Kosher practices
- An article which explores whether Christians should keep Kosher based on the New Testament

I actually think of the Kosher section in the store to be more Jewish food than anything else. You can find Kosher foods in most areas of an average grocery store (at least in the US). But if you want matzo or gefilte fish, you need to go to the Kosher section.
