Inferno

Went to see this tonight because it is a movie based on one of airports' greatest hits, and I was not disappointed! Some thoughts while it's all still fresh:
- Dan Brown doesn't know what the World Health Organization is, bless his soul, but I like the Secretive World Police he thinks it is, complete with black jets and gadgeted field agents
- Irrfan Khan plays the movie's BESTEST CHARACTER with best lines and curious skill set; if it weren't too late for Yuletide I'd be asking for fic of his previous projects all over the place
- Trains in Italy are not that swank; I was reminded of Casino Royale with fancy-ass trains in Montenegro, which made local audiences howl in theatres, and I spent most of Inferno with a gently raised eyebrow regarding the chill Italians and Turks exhibited in traffic closures and other vexations of daily life
- I kinda liked how nothing in here actually had to do with Dante (could've been any poet and, barring a few buildings, you'd end up with exactly the same story) but everything with how young and unreasonably rich pretentious folk are the fucking worst
- Because the WHO are Secretive World Police, there's no need for actual police which is why nobody thought of maybe investigating people close to the dead billionaire
- Nothing in this movie makes a lick of sense
- I mean, nothing; there's a character in danger at the start, for example, who does a Crucial Thing and is then not only never seen again, but I couldn't for the life of me figure why he did the Crucial Thing at all, not to mention all the other implications that come with this (I'll spoil it in the comments for anyone interested); it's all very exciting the way the movie is cut, but try to put the puzzle together and none of the pieces fit
- It's still massively entertaining
- Middle-aged couple saves the day! Middle-aged couple doesn't stay a couple because of real life circumstances and rational decisions! I am so unused to seeing this that I nearly applauded the non-romance sub-sub-subplot.
- Irrfan Khan tho
Anyone else? I haven't read the book and now I'm not sure I want to, in fear it doesn't live up to the exciting nonsense this movie is.

You had me at Irrfan Khan TBH XD
If everything goes as planned, I'm going to see this movie in a couple of days yay :D Especially after I saw that Irish Times article review saying: "Inferno is the best Dan Brown film so far. It is also unforgivably dreadful from start to finish". I can't wait! :D
Oh I was on the fence about this but now? I'm chips in. I love a good train wreck of a movie. Pun dreadfully intended 😄
Come to the dark side, we have
cookiesDan Brown! Also, amazing news: my mom just told me she has the book and she'll lend it to me! I'm definitely going to watch the movie first, but I'll read the book too :D
