Greetings, I'm @cutoffslope. And this is my blog

This blog is about change. A bit of letting go, and a lot of hanging on.

I went to work after finishing college with a degree in Interactive Media and spent five years in digital marketing. As my interest and motivation for the marketing world declined over that period, my work in social media analytics rekindled a love for theory in mass communication. I began reading again, surfing the literature to see how academics and researchers might be using online social networking platforms for social science.

Looking for the frontier, I discovered (for myself, as it was obvious already for so many) a globe-spanning conversation on theory and methods and commentary on how ICT like social media, the internet of things, and the internet in general, are affecting public and private life. All that to say (I say that a lot), this research led me to the study of persuasive media and technologies, like algorithmic and computational propaganda.

Hooked, I'm working to prepare my self for doctoral studies and contribute to the field. This has meant big changes, sacrifice, frustration, uncertainty, and hysterical laughter.

This is that story as it unfolds. Pleased to meet you.
