Private lives are exposed as WikiLeaks spills its secrets

CAIRO (AP) - The Associated Press has found that WikiLeaks' global crusade to expose government secrets is causing collateral damage to the privacy of hundreds of innocent people, including survivors of sexual abuse, sick children and the mentally ill.

If Assange & Co. no longer consider it worth to consider the lives they affect by their work, Wikileaks has lost any ethical ground it might have stood on.

While I might have understood supporting him in the past, I think the point where people should defend him is way behind us.

we can't say the writing wasn't on the wall, tho. dude had a conspiracy that jewish people were trying to keep him from getting money from other jewish people, and that was in 2011. then there was the admittance that he edited the Collateral Murder video to deliberately hide evidence of an armed combatant being seen, because he wanted the most political impact.

this is, to me, just the natural evolution of all that. whatever good he thinks he's doing seems very much second-fiddle to his need for political revenge and praise from the internet. i mean, the guy can't shut up about Clinton and whoever runs the twitter account automatically accuses anyone saying anything wikileaks doesn't like of being a shill for Clinton--even people who have criticized her as a career.

Absolutely. Assange has always been far too close to being a sleaze, one does not even have to mention the legal troubles he is facing in Sweden.

It's odd though how he is still being idolized in parts of the hacker/tech community. Of course, that community has its own baggage, but it should be obvious by now that Assange does not care about anything but his own private crusades and wields Wikileaks like a blunt weapon.

But who am I arguing with!? We probably pretty much agree on the matter.

i'm just waiting for the day he leaks PI about people the internet love and they turn on him.

I have to admit that I doubt that this is going to happen at this point, considering that actions are in sync with the libertarian/alt-right crowd he seems to be pandering to these days. I would be very surprised if Assange went against the convictions he has displayed in the last few years.

Even if he would openly align himself with Russia (or more openly than he already does), there are still far too many who would applaud him for embracing the "strong man".
