I'll try to update this list as I remember more, but probably:
Very silly shows, their writing felt very fresh.
Sakamoto desu ga?
May I ask why?
the show is ridiculous, slightly homo, and made me laugh out loud every episode!
Himouto! Umaru-Chan is a fucking gift and so relate-able.
Kill Me Baby was really interesting and I loved the style.
Disk Wars was meh but brought to an amazing because of the goddamn Avengers.
And how could I forget Love Live!? It was so cute and bubbly.
Why are you making me choose one.
I didn't choose just one, don't worry!
Alright, that makes me feel a little better LMAO.
ERASED.
What did you like about it?
I've got the answer in my just-published best-of-the-year post.
ERASED is well-animated, and quite suspenseful! the ending was a little melodramatic, but it is anime, after all.
From 2016: Ms. Bernard said
Found in 2016: Gakkougurashi, Bakuman and My Love story.
To love ru, all the seasons
What did you like about it?
It's so fun, the way that rito ends up always being knocked out and blowing up in the air, it's so fun
Thanks. I've heard of it, but never gotten a rec for it before. :)
Watch it then, it's pretty amazing
it's THE series for Harem/Ecchi, if that's your cup of tea. I can't think of any other shows on its level.
The novelty wore off after two seasons for me, but I think they're at 4 or 5 now.
I discovered a lot of my current favorite anime for each genre in 2016 (Konosuba, Mob Psycho, freakin DanganRonpa3, Drifters) and also finally saw Kimi no Na Wa. Gonna be hard to top this in 2017!
Off the top of my head:
The Gundam: The Origin OVAs, which are gorgeous
Only Yesterday was a wonderful and simple piece of storytelling (and I'll never look at a pineapple the same way).
And though I haven't had a chance to finish it, The Irregular at Magic High School has some of the most interesting world-building I've come across in ages.
Mob Psycho 100
It was obvious how Bones really put their heart and soul into animating it, and the story itself is excellent, as a reader of the original manga.
Gotta be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and (I know it not really an anime but) Dragonball Z Abridged
I only watched Izetta the Last Witch XD
Did you like it?
Yes I did - even though I've also seen a lot of criticism of it, but it was fun as well as being an interesting WWII AU!
Thanks. :) I've heard the name multiple times but never much beyond 'looks interesting'. I'll have to check it out.
Shokugeki no Souma!
Yuri!!!!!!!!!!! On Ice, no contest. New Game was pretty fun too, but objectively kind of dumb.
I liked Yuri!!! on Ice, too, even though I'm not a big sports anime fan. The animators obviously did a lot of research.
