The main pull of imzy over reddit is the site guidelines. Imzy has a set of general site guidelines that all communities have to abide by unlike reddit where anything can go and you end up with pro rape/racisim communities.
This trickles down to the people as well with members being much more accepting and understanding of people.
There are also little features like a nicer ui and better sorting by tags but the first two are the major things.
My Reddit account is nearly as old as the site itself. I've found myself becoming bored with the same weak puns and the same predictable jokes on every single post.
I'm brand new to imzy so not sure how I'll get along with it myself yet, but so far it seems excellent.
It's not just the puns and jokes either - there's behavior on that site that's just low-grade awful. Yesterday I watched a TV show episode. I read several reviews, but I wanted to read actual back and forth discussion. So I went to the subreddit and found the episode discussion thread. There is good discussion there.
But there's also shit. There was sexual objectification of one of the female characters. There was a the usual "ooh this guy has a gf" assholery when someone mentioned the way their girlfriend reacted to a specific scene (because now not only are girls not a thing on the internet, they're also not a thing in real life). And that's for a relatively innocuous subject. Reddit is just not a place where you can depend on being able to have a normal conversation without having to wade through varying levels of shit. Imzy may be way way quieter, but it's also not got any of that. Hopefully it can both keep that quality, and grow in time.
The best content often gets lost. The algorithm privileges witty one liners over lengthy nuanced responses. The feeling of community is long gone. The racists and feminists derail conversations.
Reddit was once the best site on the internet, but that time is long past.
I agree with the earlier comment about guidelines. That's exactly what's great here. You can be as open or closed as you want to be. The power is in your hands.
