A few weeks ago at a fair I found a black ring that I thought would make a nice ace ring. It turned out to be a mood ring.

Lol, almost. At this one rock shop, I would test all the black-looking rings by picking them up and holding them for a second or two. I did eventually find some non-mood rings.
FWIW, I've been told that if you leave a mood ring in a freezer for long enough it will eventually lose it's color changing properties and settle permanently on black. I've never tested it myself though.
I actually haven't had that experience, but I used to have sort of an opposite experience - I used to have a ring that was black enamel with silver edges (much like a standard mood ring) and I kept getting people who looked at it and jokingly asked why I was in such a bad mood...
Nah, I was much more boring than that - I bought a cheap one off Geek (which is part of the shopping app Wish).
