Sub-$1000 acoustic bass recommendations?

I have a cheap-ish alvarez acoustic bass and I'd love to get something that's a step up. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi Sam, I am an electic bass man, and can tell you about electic basses. But, it's obviously you should listen the instument first. And you should know what type of sound you want from bass. Then, the decision will come more easily. For my taste I love Warwick and Gretsch semi-accoustic basses. But if it's only accoustic, I saw many bass players have Warwick Alien Acoustic bass. You should try it. Cheers!

Hi Sam, first - excuse my bad english. If your question will be actual until. Here recommendations of mine, cause I'm an acoustic bass player too. My best experiences I've with "Stoll" basses. Stoll is a german guitar maker with absolut finest guitars. Handmade & perfect in sound and playing every stile. A wonderful alternative is "Furch". I'm playing a fretless acoustic bass of this manufacture. The best bass I ever had. bass greetings Thomas
