The Hazy History of Flip Cup

The Hazy History of Flip Cup

Flip cup is the reality TV of drinking games. You don't need much to make it work - a group of people, a pack of Toby Keith's favorite beverage holders, and a rectangle table - and it's simple. On top of all that, it's one of the most ubiquitous drinking games in colleges across the country.

We might drink more like sophisticated young adults now, but we all came from the same plastic cups.

One of those cultural things, we didn't use them back in the Colonies. Usually we used glass vessels acquired from drinking establishments through means less than ethically correct (pocketed) or we used our own personal drinking vessels (be they from beerfests or band labeled or merely otherwise individualised). Failing that such as at more official drinking events, those god awful transparent cups that crack when exposed to a stern glance or stiff wind.

So, those sort of games weren't popular due to not having the mechanics to complete them. Instead vocal (cheap students) or dice games ruled the roost.

Great story. I like the way you write.

Adequate lubrication makes writing easy, speaking not so much. ;)
