Why You Should Be Drinking Cheap Wine

Why You Should Be Drinking Cheap Wine

Try this experiment: Walk into the nearest wine shop and ask for an "everyday wine" recommendation. Refuse to give a price range, and see what the merchant suggests. My guess is you're out 15 bucks. Critics seem to be pushing this price point as an appropriate range for " everyday wine"-Slate is as guilty as any publication-even though the phrase can't possibly be taken literally.

I used to get good cheap wine at Trader Joe's. I'm not much of a wine drinker anymore and I'm in a state with government liquor stores so I don't know if it's still like that. I just know I got decent stuff for under 10. Sometimes under 5.

Government liquor stores?! I thought Minnesota's laws were archaic. We can't buy alcohol at grocery stores, or on Sunday. It's bullshit because the only reason is that the restaurants lobby hard against Sunday sales. The liquor stores lobby against no grocery sales. The government shouldn't be doing these kinds of favors for business. That is not capitalism.

For our state, it's all about religion and restricting people from all that crazy sinning. The restaurant laws are crazy too. They can't prepare drinks where patrons can see them. They can have a visible bar but mixing and pouring must be done out of site. You can get some beer at a grocery store but that's it. A lot of people are fighting it but the LDS has a strong grip on the state.

Thanks for making me feel better about MN laws. They are mostly just inconvenient and more expensive for consumers, but the "mix out of sight" restrictions is a little overboard.

I purposefully look for cheap wine. I have NEVER seen anything under 3 dollars. Not even outside of liquor stores (like in grocery stores). It could be because I live in NYC. I always thought $7.00 was cheap for a bottle. Guess I was wrong. ๐Ÿ˜…

I used to buy this $7.00 wine .. Our Daily Red .. it was good, organic and the cheapest I've ever seen .. but they totally jacked the price up, so now there isn't anything under $12. Where's the $2 Thunderbird?

Yeah, wtf? And when I do a quick Google search for cheap wines in the U.S., I see a lot of lists for wines "under $20". Which is what I thought was cheap. But now that this article has ruined me, I know they're all filthy liars. ๐Ÿ˜…

It must be the perception that cheap wine is bad and that wine should be good and special .. supply and demand.

Cheap wine is good. I've never drank anything over $15 (Ontario pricing, so there's government enforced minimum pricing). Some of my favourites are in the $11 range.
