I'm going to be a bit vague/cliche-y to avoid Spoilers...
It's (urban) fantasy about a mage, Alex Verus, in todays London who, due to his gift - being able to see the future - is hired to do stuff and stumbles over things. He has a, well, interesting past (which we learn about in some bits and pieces but this part (part 4) seems to deal with it) and is therefore considered an outcast by some - which is totally fine with Alex, because the more mages notice you, the more you get involved with stuff/politics/and so on.
It has a great cast of supporting characters and I really like the voice of the main character and the way it's written. It has humor, thinky thoughts, action, friendship, hardship and so on. I'm not really into urban fantasy and therefore have been a bit hesitant to read it when a Goodreads friend rec'd it but it convinced me. :)
Here is the link to the first part on Goodreads which summary has some more details: Fated (beware of Spoilers in the Question/Review section)
A+ on the C.J. Cherryh and Tanya Huff ones! I can't remember how far I got into the Confederation War series, but I liked it.
My recent "haul" is still from the holidays. A pile. Still sitting there waiting to be sorted. Most notably is 'The Princess Diarist' by Carrie Fisher.
Looks like fun! Which one are you going to start on first?
Probably "Chosen" because it seems that we finally get some more backstory on the main character in this one. +_+
If not, then "The Heart of Valor" or "The King of Plagues". :)
I've never heard of it before, but from the cover it looks interesting. Sounds like it's part of a series? What's it about?

I've read "The Silvered" by Tanja Huff and I loved it. Then I got rec'd the Confederation War series and Hook. Line. Sinker. I really love it.
I've never read anything by C.J. Cherryh before but various books by her have been rec'd to me. :)
I'm thinking about getting that one too. :)
