Biene's personal blog. God only knows what the hell I'll put in here. Probably pictures of my cats, let's be real.
Bee, Trippin'

About to go back to Germany for the first time in 5 years, and I thought a little blogging about this trip might be a good way to see some of what Imzy can do as a blogging platform.
So, this trip is mainly because I needed to get the hell out of dodge since work's been driving me crazy, and what better excuse to continue my quest to visit every single German state AND fulfill my years-long desire to go geek about the Grimms?
I've included a map for reference - the blue Xes are the states I'll be spending time in, and the red checkmarks are states I've visited before. (A visit only counts if I spend at least one full day running around doing stuff there, sightseeing and all that.) It's one of my life goals to hit up all the states, and as you can see, I'm well on my way there.
So, where am I heading this time?
Frankfurt: Where the hell else do you fly into, honestly. Frankfurt also has the Struwwelpeter Museum, which I've been obsessed with for years because it is always closed when I'm passing through Frankfurt.
Mainz: Checking off Rheinland-Pfalz, hell yeah! Mainz is also where Johannes Gutenberg was from, so obviously there's a museum about printing history. There are also a number of sites/musueums here related to the antiquities, so that's on my list, too. (It's really not my area of expertise, but Rheinland-Pfalz seems to have a particuarly high concentration of Roman ruins, between the couple things in Mainz and the Porta Nigra in Trier.)
Kassel: The main event - hometown of the Brothers Grimm. The fact that Kassel is my big destiation on this trip is both cause and effect of my decision to travel alone (which weirds my coworkers out - I don't get it, but they are surprised I'm going by myself - "aren't you worried? Be safe" and "you're going ALONE?"). There's a museum for the Grimms, and the adorable little cafe attached is called Falada. The fact that I did a fangirl squee/near hyperventilation over that is a good indicator of how I'm sparing my loved ones by not dragging them to Kassel with me.
Marburg: This place just looks hella gorgeous. It's also where the Grimms went to college. I'm gonna find where they used to live and then stand on the street and breathe heavily while thinking, "Wilhelm got the scarlet fever here!" You know. Like a normal person does.

Marburg looks really cool! I love the aggressively German feel of the architecture.
I am walking through Marburg right now, and it is (shockingly) really living up to that photo. I am confused. Germany is, in my experience, not normally this German.
:D I'll make a note if I ever get out there then
"Wilhelm got the scarlet fever here!" You know. Like a normal person does.
I mean, it's basically the way of our people, so.
Heh. I mean. Yeah.
Wait, there are Romans on your trip? You didn't mention the Romans!
Did so. I mentioned Römerpassage.
