I've seen crows performing this behaviour many times.
Today a crow nearly dropped a walnut right on my head haha. It didn't break when it hit the ground so I looked at the crow then walked over and stepped on the nut to break it open. I walked away to a "safe" distance and then watched him come hopping over to pick at the meaty centre. I think I made a friend. Haha.
