Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Let's discuss! (SPOILERS AHOY.)
It sounds like a bunch of us have read Cursed Child by now... so let's discuss! (I'm starting a new thread so we don't end up accidentally spoiling anyone reading the other thread in /Books!)
What was your reaction? What did you love? Was there anything you didn't love?
I have so many thoughts I don't even know where to start.

I love love loved it. Here's what I wrote on goodreads:
"Number of times I ugly-cried while reading this: Maybe...8? Honestly. As an actress, reader, writer, and lover of all things HP, this filled so many parts of my heart in so many ways. I loved it. I spent a solid hour discussing staging and design ideas with my sister-in-law. I chatted with my husband about the beautiful and powerful moments scattered through this story, and the way it addressed some of the potentially messy ideas of a world in which time-travel and magic are both possible. And I sat alone, thinking about how much I will love Harry Potter, for all of my days. Always."
I loved how the script addressed certain flaws in the Harry Potter world head-on: how time travel could have "solved" things, how Dumbledore died but was still there as a portrait so wasn't really lost. These are elements of the stories that have been criticized, and sort of disguised in the plot of this show are the answers to those criticisms.
And oh, all the feels. So many feels. When Ron and Hermione are surrounded by dementors and about to be "kissed" by them, and Hermione says to Ron "I love you and I always have. Kiss me." And Ron says, "I will," and they have their moment right before they sacrifice themselves. GAH. And when Dumbledore says that he wasn't a good father to Harry! And when everyone is at Godric's Hollow, and they know James and Lily are about to be killed, but they also know that they can't do anything about it. They MUST let it happen, and Harry has to watch and listen. I just really really really really love Harry Potter.
I kept pace with you on the ugly cries. There were so many unexpected moments where I teared up. Like, where Draco mentions that he didn't really enjoy his time at school? Break. My. Heart. We only ever got the side where Hogwarts was The Best Place Ever, and so realizing that not every student loved school was almost surprising to me... and to have that student be Draco was so poignant. And then he started talking about how jealous he was of their friendship and then they had a moment where THEY BECAME FRIENDS... I just really, really loved Draco in this one, and I was never a big Draco fangirl.
And where Harry talks about how he's afraid of the dark?
And Godric's Hollow ripped my heart in two.
On the not-weeping side of things: ANYONE ELSE MAD ABOUT THE TROLLEY WITCH? That was the actual best.
TROLLEY WITCH FOR THE WIN! Oh my gosh, that was amazing.
Yeah, I loved the insight we got into Draco's life, and the friendship that the Gryffindor gang develop with him.
I'm reading it on Sunday, so stand by! Also, thank you. My partner won't let me talk about it at home because he doesn't want to spoil the experience when we see the play (not that we have tickets or remote plans to go) and I have a feeling my head might explode if I don't get to share.
I can't imagine! Share as much as you want here! <3
