Place to discuss, rec, and generally squee over fan fiction about Steve Rogers and Tony Stark
Sunday Open Discussion Thread
That time of the week! Anything and everything you want to talk about. Something in real life you want to share? Found a fic you love? Writing woes? Your cat or dog do something funny? Has anyone else seen Fantastic Beasts (no spoilers!) or are you planning to go? Thoughts on them dong a prequel?
If you are American, what are your plans for Thanksgiving, if you celebrate. If you are not American, uh...happy Thursday?

We have no Thanksgiving in the Philippines, but spending it protesting against a dictator and his family :))
I'm preparing my gift for my cap ironman holiday exchange recipient. Im just going to relax during the break, continue my Steve Tonies projects and hopefully watch more Black Mirror :D
Y'all, for what it's worth, I threw up a little something on the Sinful Saturday post. Say a Sinful Sunday Sequel? IDK. Fashionably late, perhaps. Just in case someone needs a bit more porn before the Monday blues.
Happy Thanksgiving week! It's so nice reading everyone's plans for the holiday.
I'm 8 weeks prego and I have my first ultrasound tomorrow. I've been lightly panicking for the last couple weeks and now I'm too nervous to focus on anything, hence why I've been bopping all around this community for the last 24 hours. Thanks for the distraction, y'all. Any prayers, well wishes, and good vibes sent our way that we'll find a healthy baby tomorrow are greatly appreciated.
In other news, I'm trying to distract myself by working on my new story and it's just making me more frustrated. It looks like it's going to be longer than anything I've ever written before, so I'd love a little feedback before I get 20k into this thing. If anyone is willing to lend an eye, I'd greatly appreciate it! :)
Congrats on your pregnancy and sending good vibes for your ultrasound! You may want to check the Writer Assistsnce Thread, because we had several folks offer to beta, and messaging them may be a good way to find someone. I'm a terrible beta, or I'd do it. More a cheerreader than actual, useful beta.
Thank you for the good vibes! I'll check that thread out :) I'm sorry if I posted my request on the wrong thread. I'm still figuring out how to navigate this place, but the introduction post has been very useful :)
Not the wrong thread or anything just that you may get more help there, since people have offered to beta already for when writers need that. This thread is for anything goes! Let us know how things go today, if you want to share. Sending hugs!
Congratulations for the baby! I am sure everything is going to be fine, ultrasounds are fantastic and all the vibes so that everything is perfect. At least they were great times for me (I have two sons). There is something magical to see those abstract forms and see your baby 😄
I could read your fic and give my opinion if you wish, though I can't do a proper 'beta' since English is my second language. But another pair of eyes on plot/pace/characterization I can do!
Aww! Thank you! I'd very much appreciate another set of eyes on it just to make sure it's heading down the right track and that it's worth continuing :)
It would be my pleasure! email it to me at gottalovev at yahoo dot ca 😄
I sent it your way! Let me know that you got it (and that I didn't accidentally send it to some poor unsuspecting stranger) :)
hum, it's taking it's sweet time getting to me! lol!
let me spell out the email again (they allow this here, right?) gottalovev@yahoo.ca
Woopsie. My mistake :X I'm resending now :)
:O Congrats! All my best wishes for you and your new addition! :D
Thank you! Thank you! Your wishes are appreciated so much!
Congrats on the pregnancy! :)
Thank you!
Congratulations on your little one!! Wishing you both a healthy & happy seven months ahead!
Thanks!
Congratulations omg and hope everything goes smoothly!!!
Thank you!
Congratulations! I hope everything goes smoothly, and that this community helps you de-stress and relax whenever you need it :)
Good vibes and well wishes worked, y'all! Little peanut looks good and healthy and even gave us a little wiggle during the ultrasound! I'm holding out for a July 4th due date, even though my husband refuses to let me name it Steven Grant. Thanks to all y'all for your concern and for being the best distraction from my pregnancy nerves :)
Do you know what never ever goes away? (at least for me?) The urge to clean the house a lot more than normal when my mom is due to visit. I am usually so lazy about it, it's ridiculous (and I frankly don't really care). So there's been a lot of cleaning yesterday and this morning, and my mom and brother came for a coupe of hours this afternoon (they'll be back on Tuesday). Upside? clean house! yay!
In between I watched my University Football team win the Uteck Bowl and advance easily to the Canadian final for the 10th time in 22 years of existence, so that's awesome. My son is two years away from University football, I sure hope I get to watch him play there, if the stars align.
I am absolutely thrilled that the Stony big bangs and the Spideytorch big bangs are posting, yay! I only read a couple, but I am always thirsty for long fics and glorious art. \o/ 😄
Canadian Thanksgiving was weeks ago so this is just a regular Thursday, but for sure I wish all my celebrating friends the best!!!
I spent like 14 hours last week cleaning my house for my mom's visit. I'm 41. So, it does not go away, just FYI!
I'm 44, LOL! 😉
I also clean at like 2 am when I'm stressed lmao
I wish, sadly my stress goes into procrastinating in very non-productive ways!
I am totally ready for Thanksgiving my doods! My family's having dinner with close friends, and I'mma see my brother from another mother! We're bringing the bird, the stuffing, and we're also making 3 types of pies homemade! I'm in charge of pumpkin pie and making the stock for the stuffing! It's really exciting growing up and being able to do different things, I remember when I was my sister's age and all I was allowed to do was stand over the sink with a vegetable peeler.
As for IRL stuff, at my dad's AA fellowship the coffee maker broke, damn thing's older than my sister. We tried to save it, but we ended up having to pull the event coffee makers out. I didn't check to see if the spout was closed on one and got water all over the floor. 0_0'
I am almost done with the first 400 words of Chapter 6 of Till He Comes Marching Home, and let me tell you, writing is hard. :^) Especially when you don't want to sound like a broken record repeating the same words over and over. Like, there's a difference between emphasis and just being unoriginal, you know?
Happy Thanksgiving week! Congrats on graduating from the vegetable peeler. I don't know about you, but I always found it to be tedious :P I used to challenge myself to see how long a peel I could make. At least I always won...or lost depending on how you look at it ;)
I'm right there with you on the writing. There's a reason I stick to short one shots! I'm struggling right now, too, on what is going to be a longer story. Good luck! I'm sure it'll turn out great!
I hated the vegetable peeler, Smile. XD I was so glad when my dad said "This year you can boil potatoes."
Thanks! Good luck to you too!
Got motion sickness in a bad way on the car ride to my grandparents' house, and a headache just for funsies I guess. And I miss my dog already :(( The good news is Thanksgiving!! It's my favorite, and I've been craving banana pudding since, like... last Thanksgiving lol
I want to like because PUDDING(!), but ugh on the other crap. And missing your dog breaks my heart, many hugs!
I have been away from him for twelve whole hours! I can't cope. Honestly I just forget how much of my time I spend bugging him until he's not there for me to bug.
Bless his little paws, I hope you have him back sooner than you thought. Life is harder without them right there to snore and beg for attention with their love.
He does snore! And he grumbles like an old man. Anyway, thanks :)
you know what? I never had banana pudding. I need to try that one day.
enjoy your thanksgiving and I hope you feel better real soon!
If possible, you should try making it from scratch! It's not hard, and you get to "clean" the pot you make the pudding in with your leftover vanilla wafers, and ohhhh man when it's still warm from the oven...! (I'm gonna stop before I start sounding like a food blogger.) Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving! 😁
BUT FOOD. It is so good! What harm in sounding like a food blogger?
The harm is, like, those essays that food bloggers write that you have to scroll through to get to the actual recipe. XP
I'm never quite sure what Americans are referring to when they say pudding haha. I know it's not the same as a pudding in the UK but it's also different than what we consider pudding in Germany, I think?
Motion sickness is awful, I get carsick a lot, which is why I hate long drives. Hope you're feeling better!
Today I'm getting together with some friends to play this Game Of Thrones game board (like risk but more complex) so I'm excited for that.
I have plans to go watch Fantastic Beasts on tuesday! I loved the books growing up, and I'm really looking forward to that. I haven't seen anything, no trailer, no info nothing, because I've found that I enjoy more these "hype" kind of movies without having previous info (I do the same for marvel movies, dc and star wars)
And yup, not from usa so no thanksgiving for me, but I look at all the food with envy and a little curious (what is this marshmallow dip I hear about? Is it normal? What is gravy made of?? In my head thanksgiving is all about the turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry and pumpkin stuff)
I'm not sure what gravy is made of, but in my house we're having a (Swedish) Christmas dinner 0.1 (a prelude to the Christmas 1.0 on Christmas Eve when we open presents after watching Donald Duck's Christmas special), because Swedish Christmas dinner is my favorite dinner and since we're not Americans but we live in America it is a perfect excuse to have the best dinner twice in one year. So for us, the gravy (which for us translates literaly to "brown sauce") is all-purpose white flour heated in a pan on the stove on low heat, which you stir, and then when it starts to brown you pour milk into it, continuing to stir until there's no lumps. And once it's a smooth beige thing, you pour soy sauce in to give it color and some flavor. Then the pepper, and maybe salt, though we don't eat much salt in my family and soy sauce already has salt, so.. yes. That's one type of Christmas gravy!
Ohhh that sounds so fun, having a sort of early christmas dinner (and Donald Duck's christmas special! Now I'll have to look it up)
I'm really curious so I'll probably try to do some gravy, with a couple of friends we like to do this sort of early christmas dinner since most of us spend it with family. So I'm gonna try doing it! Hopefully it'll turn out okay. :D
In Sweden we call it Donald Duck's Christmas, but that's because in Sweden Donald Duck is the main Disney character, not Mickey Mouse. I think this is called Mickey's Magical Christmas or something ...it should still be on Netflix! We put it on after food and before opening presents in my house, since we live in Dallas and we control when we want to play Donald Duck; in Sweden, though, everyone tunes in to the TV at the same time, the same show every year, which means we all (theoretically) also start opening presents at the same time (i.e. As soon as the show is over), which always made me really happy ❤
What kinds of foods are y'all making for your Friendsgiving??
Wow that's so cute that everyone would be opening the gifts at the same time! Over here we do the opening of gifts in the midnight of christmas eve, so I never had to wait till the other day to see my gifts (I always saw these american movies where kids woke up to the gifts and I was like "what???")
Donald Duck is my favourite by far!! I love that in Sweden everyone went like "nope, we like better the duck than the mouse so he must be the main protagonist". I don't think I have that on netflix tho, regional things make it so a lot of things that you can stream in Usa you can't in latinamerica. But it's probably in youtube :D
Oh Friendsgiving, I love that name for it. We started doing it years ago, so at first it was like tacos, or burgers, or just so many nachos and booze. One of my friends now is a chef, so we've started to do fancier stuff (last year was pork tenderloin with this sweet sauce and apple rissotto). This year we've been talking about making a Turkey! I was going to bring some spicy mashed potatoes (I like to put merkén in them, this sort of smoked chili pepper that goes amazing with everything) but I'll try to make some gravy too to bring. We're also talking about having some chocolate fondue has dessert but we haven't decided yet (I'm alway up for chocolate tho)
I'm not american myself and marshmallow dip is a mystery for sure!
gravy for me is sauce made with meat juices and then thickened... in Canada it's used all over the place, with turkey too, but most famously on poutine 😉
Ohhhh poutine! I've seen pics of it, I'd love to try it. Funny enough a lot of my research when thinking of going on a trip goes to looking at the food haha. If I could I'd go on an around the world food tasting trip yum.
Poutine looks terrible but it's pretty good! lol! I personally prefer the 'italian' version where gravy is substituted by spaghetti sauce (French-Fries, cheese curds and sauce). I've been to restaurants that have dozens and dozens of different poutine recipe, it's pretty peculiar!
Food is an important part of a trip! I try to taste local specialties myself. I'd totally do a 'best food of the world' trip too!
IM THE SAME! i love the feeling of being truly shocked about something, so I avoid final trailers and spoilers and reviews and go in blind. It's how I fell in love with movies like Mad Max cos I had no clue!!!
I love Mad Max! Really, I've been doing this with big blockbuster movies for a couple of years now, and I really really enjoy them far more than before. (I do look kind of crazed when I go to the cinema, since I put my hands in my ears and can't look at the screen when trailers for other movies I don't want to see pop up... but oh well)
My students are driving me nuts. They have an essay due Tuesday and some are emailing me now, 7 weeks after the paper was assigned, to ask about what the paper is about. I'm struggling with keeping a non-murderous attitude. The best I've come up w so far is debating the appropriate designation of "dunderhead" or "nincompoop" for each question. I want all the hugs, and all the distractions, and all the soft goat cheese with honey on fig walnut crackers money can buy. Enough to drown Atlantis.
BURIES YOU IN HUGS
THANK YOU! <33 These eggheads are just.... just. I mean. Don't fucking admit to the person grading your paper that you haven't even found a person to interview for a paper due in less than 3 days. Just, what? What are they thinking. How did they get into school??
That's awful
OH I forgot to say the best part: I've got 90 of these shitty shitty bang bangs to grade.
Omfg nooooo! Well, good luck with all that :)
Oh dear. I wouldn't dare to email my professors about the topic seven weeks after the fact. They'd have my head on a pike and rightfully so. How do these people make it through school?
I really, really, really don't know. It doesn't help when they start essays with "Immigration has been happening for many years."
you don't say! /roll eyes
Such insight! Amazing.
Then again I've seen fellow students answer "He's racist because he's old" to contribute to the discussion of Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino, so...
are you serious? jeez. they have no shame, and you have every right to be pissed.
I know your pain, kind of. Worst thing is I've given chemistry in college and I still tried to help the fuckers pass even if it was obvious that they didn't make half the effort they could have. ugh.
all the hugs and good food.
I've all but bent over for these kids, it's driving me nuts. And now two students - incidentally, the ones with really cringey "Some people become immigrants when they marry a foreign person" essays - think I'm going to look at their second drafts. No, chuckles, mamas got a fucking life. The life might involve porny fanfic, but it is a life sans your bullshit writing. They tell us we only see the top 10% of Cali's school system in the UC schools, but these kids can't string a sentence together, let alone a paragraph.
goodness. all the vibes to you, and the best of porny fanfic to get through the ordeal!
My sister is a professor too and omg why are students always like that?
I want to go see Fantastic Beasts, but it'll probably have to wait until next week. And I'm a sucker for new Harry Potter content (which I kind of missed once all the books and movies were out) so yay for prequel. Though I still wish for Marauders prequel things.
The freshly tattooed area on my leg is itching and not being able to scratch is the worst. And there's only so much ointment you can rub on. Arrrgh.
Also, I want waffles, but I don't have the ingredients. Yes, I have deep thoughts this weekend.
(Not an American, so no Thanksgiving. Family food bash will have to wait until Christmas)
Ooooh, what's your tattoo of, if you don't mind saying?
It's a Japanese Phoenix. Still a long way to go as you can see haha
HOLY CRUMBCAKE what even - that is /huge/! and that shading is beautiful!
omfg that is STUNNING!
It actually extends even further to the top, the rest of my thigh is covered too haha. I love the shading too but it takes a million years. I'm gonna be old and grey by the time it's done!
Thanks :D
Something to look forward to every year for a very long time! That's beautiful though, really. You'll have to show us more as it progresses!
That's so pretty!! Wow, I love it
oh wow, that's awesome! it will need several sessions indeed, and you aren't done itching! lol! /sends soothing vibes
I assume either you'd share about the tattoo if you wanted to, or I'm too absent from here to know, but I hope the itchy goes away soon! Preferably with waffles. (I lived 16 years having to cope with the Wrong Waffles, until I finally realized I can buy a Swedish waffle iron in the US - which, wth, why'd it take so long - and treated myself :D Now I can have flower-petal heart waffles all I want and the world is a better place! All to say, I feel you, waffles should not be out of anyone's reach.)
It always itches when it heals. Especially in the places where you layer several colours because it just takes longer to heal fully. Flower-petal heart waffles are the best shape, hands down. Though I love Belgian waffles too, but they're a mess to make.
They're also a mess to eat - at least for me, cause they're so sturdy I always pile delicious stuff on them like a crazy person who forgets the jaw doesn't unhinge. At least, I guess, mine doesn't.
But I am of the mindset that messy foods = more delicious foods! Oh man. Why am I doing this, I'm so hungry right now. Thinking about juicy burgers and nachos is not a good call.
I'm cooking the turkeyyyyyyy!
hahaha I've done it the past couple of years, and I always get excited about it :D And of course, thank God there's football all day on Thursday, so when I'm not cooking, that's what I'll be doing. :P
Good luck with turkey! And, I'm going to regret this because various contextual clues so far this year tells me the Texan in me should know this, but... who's playing?
Hahaha thank you! Vikings vs Lions, Redskins vs Cowboys, and Steelers vs Colts. :)
And who are you - pardon my French - rooting for?
I don't know a better way to say ..who do you hope will win? or who do you support than 'rooting for', but those Kiwis ruined me. Apparently there "rooting" means "fucking." Past!self-five for eagerly telling the ambassador putting my visa papers together that yes, I love the All Blacks, I've been rooting for them for years.
HAHHAA for the first game, I don't really care who wins, but I hate the Cowboys so I'm rooting for the Redskins (even though they're probably gonna lose because Dallas is 9-1, surprisingly), and the Steelers are one of my fave teams, so GO PITTSBURGH! :D
Mum on Cowboys but YEAH PITTSBURGH! I have dear friends who also love the Steelers, so fingers and toes crossed!
Hahhaa nice! crosses fingers and toes too
