Mauril Bélanger dead from ALS at 61: MP was driving force behind making O Canada gender neutral

Mauril Bélanger, the Ottawa-Vanier MP whose dying wish was to make the national anthem gender-neutral, has died. He was 61. Bélanger's private member's bill to alter two words of O Canada, cleared its final hurdle in the House of Commons on June 15, passing by a vote of 225 to 74.

I read this last night. I'll miss seeing M. Bélanger at community events when I go home now.

I knew this day was coming, ALS is terrible, but in my mind he wasn't as far gone as he was.
