I have six cats, and they come in pairs:

Calvin and Hobbes: Hobbes was named Hobbes because he's an orange tabby, and so we named his brother Calvin to fit the theme :)

Peanut and Licorice: Peanut was a stray cat who gave birth to Licorice. Peanut was named peanut because she would eat the peanuts left out for squirells. Then, when Licorice was born, we named her that because she was a black cat, and wanted to keep the food theme.

Max and Lynx: Lynx is a wild, wild looking kitty, so we named him Lynx. His brother Max was named Max to keep the "X" theme, and the names souded nice together.

Ha! We do the same thing - I always tell people "I don't have six cats, I only have three pairs of two." That's much more sane, right?

My cat is named Murphy. She's named for the character Karrin Murphy in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, and not, despite repeated claims by my sister, named for the character Murphy Brown.

I named my black cat Jet coz he's jet black, and I named my grey cat Smokey coz he's the colour smoke, I named my ginger cat Scarlette coz she's red and I named the other one Fergus coz why not?

We've got Marco -- a gorgeous tux with the biggest whiskers on the face of the earth. We got him from the shelter and he had a very generic name that didn't fit him at all. My youngest child suggested Marco, and it totally fits him. (Only complaint is that when he gets out, if we yell Marco, the sorority girls across the street inevitably yell Polo.)

    Marco

Then in December I rescued a little tabby-calico. At the time everyone in my house was playing Undertale, and we ended up going with Temmie. She has adopted my daughter.

His name is Sheridan, and he's in my profile photo with me :3 His name refers to artist and photographer Rob Sheridan. Here are some of his illustrations. He also does work for Nine Inch Nails as their art director for concerts, albums, and websites. As well as being in the band How To Destroy Angels with Trent Reznor from NIN. He began his career as a NIN fan, and Trent liked him so much that they actually started working together. I think he's the only fan to ever parlay his fandom into an actual successful career with his favorite band, haha.

So my wonderful miracle Sheridan is named after him, because Rob has always made me feel special when I've talked to him, and while my Sheridan may be a little more clumsy, I think it's a fitting name for him :)

Currently owned by two cats first is Monster a black and white tuxedo wearing fancy lady. She's around 3 years old. We got her at around 8 weeks of age from a pet shop that helps people who have had OOPS litters. She and around a dozen littermates were all over my other half when we went to look at them. She owned him from the moment he held her. She is such a fancy little princess that we immediately named her Monster thinking it would be weird. However... This little terror had so much energy she wouldn't leave him alone. EVER.

I then suggested that he check the local shelter to get a tiny black girl kitten to be buddies with Monster. Instead he came home with an odd eyed white male kitten who was afraid of his own shadow. I took one look at the size of this furball's feet and ears and knew he was going to be a very big boy. We named him Cthulhu after the Lovecraftian Elder God to go with the whole Monster theme.

Monster hated him at first but now they're the best of pals. Took a couple weeks for her to warm up to him (and for him to stop being afraid of us). Currently they are both roughly 3 years old. Monster weighs in at 9.8lbs and Cthulhu is 20.4lbs but not a fatty he's very lean and muscular. I often wonder if he would have been a mighty alley cat if he hadn't been rescued when he was.
