Govt one month ban on octopus fishing
Govt one month ban on octopus fishing
A temporary ban on octopus fishing will be implemented as from this Saturday inside British Gibraltar Territorial Waters. The ban which will run from April 15 to May 15 inclusive forms part of the continued efforts to manage the population of common octopus by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Climate Change.
Do you think there should be more bans on octopus fishing, by the way? Do any of you eat cephalopods? I am guilty and a hypocrite, since I eat both squid and octopus despite preferring them to be alive :( Despite loving squid sashimi and takoyaki I would definitely be in favour of a ban.

If they do short duration bans on fisheries now before things become dire I totally support it. Just look at the Atlantic coast Canadian Cod fishery collapse and recovery, though that was a much longer ban.
Mmmm takoyaki
yeah I'm not sure that a 1 month ban is long enough for fisheries to recover - but sustainable fishing is important if people want to keep consuming fish and such in the future.
