How Octopuses Are Like Aliens
How Octopuses Are Like Aliens
In The New York Times Book Review this week, Carl Safina reviews "Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness" by Peter Godfrey-Smith. Safina writes: After hundreds of millions of years, we encounter beings familiarly strange, yet strangely familiar.
The first 18 minutes of this podcast are an interview with Peter Godfrey-Smith, the author of the book in question, and it contains a couple of cute anecdotes as well as some discussion about brains and how we and octopuses (and cuttlefish) are both similar and very, very different. It's a good listen! (Although I admittedly haven't listened to anything after that particular interview.)
