Sleepless Christmas Gift Gazing

I loved Christmas so much as a wee child.
In hindsight, it wasn't about Christmas day as much. Christmas day was often filled with some levels of disappointment — over not getting this or that, or inevitably some toy not being quite as great as you'd hoped it would be. The living room covered in torn paper.
But the nights leading up to Christmas, gazing at the wrapped mystery boxes under the Christmas tree lights, dreaming and speculating on what wonders may be awaiting me... that was the most magical time... that's when the world seemed filled with possiblities...
I'm a childless adult now. It's been many years since I've felt that excitement... and yet it's still very dear to me. I can access those memories so vividly.

I have the same memories and internet secret santas have fulfilled this as an adult. There's something amazing about strangers putting together packages for other strangers, sometimes sharing photos of their mystery packages. And then, receiving something in the mail. It's really fun, I'm excited to do a small one here in /christmas this year!
Ooo, yay! Secret Santa! :D
I LOVE Christmas Eve - the beautiful snow and we'd always go to church (that one time) and they would have pretty songs with everyone holding candles. We'd tour the neighborhood to see the lights and listen to carols. There would be cookies and the beautiful tree at home. There would be the great excitement of new gifts the next day, and the joy of seeing others happy with their gifts.
I've learned to savor each moment of Christmas Day as an adult. It makes it lovely again! As a child, I might tear open all the gifts in a frenzy. As an adult, I try to choose a gift that is very meaningful to each person. We all take time to watch each person open one gift at a time, and talk about it and express thanks and excitement. We don't give as many gifts, but it's still so enjoyable. And there's the tradition then of enjoying the treats we got, having breakfast and coffee together, and relaxing by the fireplace. Or playing in the snow. Or having hot cocoa!
Ahhhh, I love this season!
I still feel the same Christmas excitement as I did when I was a child, but it's not about the presents anymore. It's just about the wonderful thrill of lots of people celebrating and trying to find joy, together. That seems magical. I love being out and about, seeing others decorating, enjoying the season, enjoying finding a treat for that special someone.
I think it's about time - experiences - sharing moments - now. I look forward to sharing time and moments with others, more than receiving gifts. I wonder if you can recapture that excitement if you plan wonderful activities to spend with folks this Christmas!
I was spending Christmas with a friend's family for years. It was nice for a few years. Then children started entering the picture and I became the weirdo friend who kept showing up, so I stopped going.
I've spent a few Christmases alone playing videogames.
A number of Christmases when I haven't been able to afford to buy gifts for anyone.
I love Christmas. I miss Christmas. It's mostly fond memories of Christmases long gone, for me.
I am sad that you miss Christmas. I hope this year, it is going to be nicer for you! I hope you will have wonderful, fond memories of this one.
I can't really afford gifts this year, but I think I will make candy for folks, that is usually a big hit, hehe.
I love Christmas too! I'm happy to find other Imzynauts who are excited about it. A lot of people dislike it, so it's nice to have this little community of merry cheer.
I feel that this Christmas is going to be a good Christmas for you :)
After all, you're the Zork who Stole Christmas!
