Gustave Caillebotte: The Painter's Eye an exhibition at the Kimbell Museum of Art, Fort Worth, TX. November 8, 2015 - February 14, 2016 Exhibition website I It is somewhat unsettling that a painter as accomplished as Caillebotte critiques two artistic virtues: the desire for order and one's intensity of focus.
Not classical music, and honestly, some of my own writing makes me grimace. Nonetheless, this is the kind of post I'd like to see on this community. I went to an exhibition, saw a bunch of paintings, wrote about the themes that struck me. Caillebotte is a virtuoso, to say the least, an impressionist who doesn't quite get the credit he should for being one of the best painters ever. In this review, I talk about how he plays with "order" and "focus," two things a viewer brings to a scene, two things an artist tries to establish in.a scene, and in his own way, "deconstructs" them.
