Johannes Ockeghem - Missa Prolationum
Johannes Ockeghem - Missa Prolationum - Kyrie
Kyrie from Missa Prolationum by Johannes Ockeghem, in the wonderful rendition of Hilliard Ensemble. Scores are in modern notation!
A wonderfully serene experience. Regardless of religion or spirituality, the listener can enjoy the melodies which interweave to satisfying cadence. This rendition features light voices, especially adept in dynamic contrast.
Music made during Ockeghem's lifetime was drastically different than our own 'classical' music. Today, we listen for chord changes, interesting harmonic progressions, and melodies which sit above accompanying figures. If you listen carefully to this piece, you can hear that each voice has its own melody. The melodic aspect of music from the 14th and 15th century was the centerpiece; harmonies were simply the result of multiple melodies occuring at one time.
Have fun listening, and have a great day!
