Beauty and the Beast US Official Trailer
Beauty and the Beast US Official Trailer
Beauty the Beast's (first?) trailer just dropped and I'm gonna try to put my thoughts in order:
The Beast attacks Maurice when he picks a rose from the garden! That has to be a callback to the original fairytale, but I'm more excited about what this means for the movie as a whole. Is it just a minor change for the scene, or does it mean there's gonna be more changes through the film? That would be exciting to see.
Hilariously, there is no singing in the trailer whatsoever, despite there being shots of musical sequences. My understanding is that trailers for musicals normally do this in order to avoid putting off potential movie-goers who aren't into musicals, but who doesn't know that Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a musical? The live-action Cinderella trailer didn't have singing either, so it seems to me that there is a marketing/creative decision in play, though I can't figure out what it is.
I've already gotten over my meh feelings about Belle's ballgown, but in its stead is my meh feelings about the Beast's face. It's just... not beastly enough. Every time there was a close-up of his face all I could think of was how much I miss the buffalo nose. I do not like that human nose at all.
It's very, very shiny, and I gasped a little at that glimpse of the ceiling in the ballroom sequence.
