Kinberg Hopes For "Brighter, Funner" "Fantastic Four" Sequel With Same Cast
Kinberg Hopes For "Brighter, Funner" "Fantastic Four" Sequel With Same Cast - Producer Simon Kinberg says they "didn't make a good movie" with the first "FF" and wants to "be truer" to the comic's essence.
How do you even CONSIDER a sequel to a comic book movie that BARELY made its budget back? The movie has a such a bad rep, just cut your losses FOX! Wait a few years and give us a good reboot thats based on some good stories from the comics (NOT AN ORIGIN STORY).
Also in the US, the movie only made $56 million. That is abysmal by super hero movie/modern action movie standards.
What do you guys think about this? Would you be OK with another movie with the same cast if they highly reworked the tone of the film?

Because it's not about making a good movie, it's about keeping the FF away from Marvel. Not maliciously mind you... Not entirely at least. The point is if they don't use FF they lose it, who cares, right? They've made three (technically four) movies now and they've all been middling to garbage... Why NOT just let marvel have their character's back. They're not making the company any money, right?
But what if the rights DO revert back to Marvel and Marvel does what they do and make it into a smash hit that's now tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Trust me Marvel will do exactly that, the sitcomesque family dynamic of the characters writes itself. The inherent lightness of tone would be a great moment of levity for Phase Four where Phase Three has been very heavy in tone so far. And they also get DOOM, which might as well be a win on it's own merit.
Some Executive in Fox then needs to explain to his boss why Marvel was able to make the franchise a hit while they couldn't...
This is exactly why Sony decided to not bleed themselves dry with their proposed Spidey-Universe with the Venom and Sinister Six movies and oh a movie about Aunt May becoming a nurse! No they went to a table and worked out a shared custody deal for poor poor Peter Parker. Now Marvel gets to make the movie they want, have THE TENTPOLE OF THEIR COMPANY in the Cinematic Universe, and Sony gets to make some money off the property when it makes a billion dollars.
Fox, though, always seems to have a slightly more bitter attitude about working with Marvel or giving the right's back. It's why X-Men First Class was made on a shoestring budget and rushed out the door and was only successful because of the decent writing and how good Mcavoy and Fassbender were in their respective roles. It's why as fervor dies down for the First Class timeline they are ONCE AGAIN looking to make another Wolverine movie.
It doesn't matter how bad these films are, it matters how good the films will be if Marvel Studios makes them.
Addendum: Marvel doesn't even really seem to care... As in the Comics they've severely downplayed the Fantastic Four (the Richards Family at least) and replaced Mutants in general favoring the Inhumans as the "YOU SUCK BECAUSE THIS IS A RACIST ALLEGORY!" schtick. Seems to be working... Thing is part of the Guardians of the Galaxy now, so that's super cool.
As much as I knew the first one was a money grab, I was excited by the quality of the actors, so maybe this will be okay. But still, if they didn't want to make a shitty movie, they shouldn't have made a shitty movie.
Honestly, though, wouldn't everyone be happier if they just lent the rights to Marvel and got royalties?
FF is a valuable property. It isn't suprising that they would want to do something with it. If they buck the tone of the first movie and just make it a fun, standalone, sci-fi adventure it could be great. It's just a hard franchise to get right as countless comic writers and 4 different find have shown us
I'm not saying not to release something period . I think they should cut their losses with this iteration...start fresh. New cast, new writers, new director. If they were smart they'd bring in someone like Whedon who has had success in the genre and name recognition.
